Fun workplace

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Fun place to work with a diverse crew throughout the club. The members are mostly pleasant and sometimes provides an awesome opportunity to network.

Pros

Paid breaks, 50% off food, free espresso, employee appreciation celebrations monthly

Cons

Communication, on your feet all day

Fast paced kitchen with no communication skills

I am not sure if they didn't have the desire to communicate, but it was nonexistent. Communication is important for a healthy kitchen to keep running and to keep your line cooks happy. A lot of great people work here, but to me it feels like management could work with their employees a bit more, and communicate goals and expectations to new hires better. Disclaimer: this is all about the kitchen, I never had any issues with the FOH crew at all, they're lovely folks.

Poor upper management , picky about who gets benefits

Management is hit or miss and some members treat you like nothing or that they can’t be seem talking with the staff , there are a few members that go out of their way to make the job worth it…. Sometimes

Disappointing

Overlake has many departments and most of them are run efficiently minus the food and beverage department. They cannot seem to grasp how to treat their employees with respect. There is zero training. No standards or expectations. It shows in the level of service and management is to blame. They are inexperienced and lack passion. Communication is non existent. If you are interested in working in the service industry, looking elsewhere is recommended.

Energetic Workplace with great team and supportive membership

A fast-paced work environment where there are always a lot of projects and events happening. There is a good mix of employees that have worked here for a long time and new staff. The membership has high expectations, but are very supportive.

Great Summer Job

The management at Overlake is caring and compassionate while setting high bars and expectations. You can work in the golf department at age 16 and it honestly is the best summer job for any high schooler. The pay is fair, it is often that you get a $1/hr raise every year you work there if you show dedication and achieve expectations, but the real bonus is the connections you make.

Pros

Connections, Management, and Environment

Cons

Advancement, Job Security

Overlake Golf and Country Club was a good place to work. The staff and fellow workers were all positive and respectful, and overall workplace culture was positive.

High Quality Serving Environment

Overlake is a great place to work where the staff has a family like relationship with one another. The management staff respects their employees and sets the bar with an incredibly high level of dedication and effort. A typical day consists of side work such as cleaning, polishing, and general prepping of the restaurant for service, as well as handling a relatively small section of roughly five tables.

Fast paced and fun, driven but fair management

The kitchen was expertly run and a joy to work in. Upbeat, happy atmosphere, fantastic co-workers. Pay was low compared to similar jobs in the area, especially considering the clientele. Would have stayed forever if pay was enough to support rent in the area.

My first big job

I started raking bunkers at 15 for a summer job and quickly worked my way up from laborer to second assistant while attending college after graduating from high school. After completing two associates degree in three years i was going to be the Assistant Superintendent but landed my current job at Mill Creek Country Club at 22 years of age. Nobody has beaten my record at running a Country Club at 22 years of age.

Pros

Learned so many fields.

Cons

Pay was very low.

Fast pace and fun work environment

Early morning mowing and then ranch work if necessary. Shop work during busy hours and mowing when there are not a lot of golfers playing. You have to work some weekends to prepare for tournaments.

Pros

Fun and enjoyable

Cons

Lower Pay

Part-Time Job

My work at Overlake Golf & Country Club was part-time while I was in high school and my first years of university. Typically I would go in around 8am to open the pool to the public and set up the pool deck. Throughout the day my coworkers and I would take shifts to watch the water and man the front desk to check in guests. We would then close down the pool at around 9pm. This would include, cleaning up and taking out all the trash, cleaning the locker rooms, organizing the pool toys, chairs and tables and locking up. It's a relatively laid back atmosphere during the day. Because it is a private club it wasn't overly busy. However, management took lifeguarding very seriously. Every summer before the start of the summer season, we had to brush up on all our First Aid, CPR and rescue maneuvers as well as a general test of physical strength.

Great college summer job

This job paid very fairly and provided the perfect amount of hours per week for a college student in the summer. The staff are friendly and easy to work with. It can be stressful during busy events, but the team never fails to work as a cohesive unit.

Fun, easy summer job

I have worked at Overlake for the past 2 summers and always really enjoy it. It's a fairly easy job, especially for high school aged people or people coming home from college for the summer.
