I would offer more pay, monthly bonuses, employee discounts on services and products (hotel, car rental, cell phone, internet and etc.), gas cards with $50 every 2 weeks, more employees on each unit every shift (each unit would have at least 4 CNAs and 2 Nurses). I would treat everyone the same (no favoritism). If they called in without some sort of written excuse, there would be points against them (2 unexcused absence a month would be a warning with no bonus, discounts or any other perks). I wouldn't take in any dangerous mental illness patients unless they have dementia or Alzheimer. I would make sure the nurses, aides and kitchen staff have all the supplies they need. Patients would have more activities to do; I would rent charter buses and take them on out of town on overnight trips with voluntary CNAs and nurses. It would really be a 5 star nursing facility, not just say it's a 5 star and not be.

12 hour shifts, 4 days the first week, 3 days the next week per payroll. Work 7 12 hour shifts every 2 weeks.

Patients on the call lights back to back, but that isn't the problem because that is a part of the job. The problem is when you only have 1 or 2 CNAs and you can't answer in a timely matter because your in another patients room, and some of the nurses will not answer the call lights.
