Really?
Data Entry Specialist (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 27, 2018
PACE Paratransit does not care about their employees. Despite your job title or responsibility, their main issue is having you cover the busy front desk and telephone. They actually fired a girl who got sick and couldn't handle the busy phone because she had no voice. They have a high turnover rate because of this, when all they can do is just hire a second receptionist. Pretty simple, right?
Pros
Convenient location, decent work hours
Cons
Instead of having people interrupt their primary responsibility to cover the front desk, they should just hire another receptionist!

Strict and not supportive
Bus Operator (Current Employee) –  Melrose Park, ILApril 2, 2018
Pace is a company that expects the best out of its workers but do not show them the same support in return. They have no sick days and zero work-life balance. The hourly rate is great but once they take out everything they can imagine you have nothing left but minimum wage.

Pace was a good place to work, Mngt had no regard work workers
Bus Operator (Former Employee) –  Joliet, ILFebruary 19, 2018
A typical day at Pace was to trips to the downtown Chicago area, one to drop and and another to pick up. I learned that people want to get home in a timely manner after working all day. Management gave workers more problems than the customers. There was room for advancement as long as you were in the right click. The hardest part of my job was driving on the shoulder in the snow. I loved getting my customers to their destinations as quickly as possible.
Pros
Starting later in the day
Cons
long and tiring breaks

it is what you make of it
bus operator (Former Employee) –  Des Plaines, ILSeptember 25, 2017
the operator's position would vary in quality from each garage. I worked out of the des plaines garage and never had one problem. there is a culture though of you and them meaning the operators generally tend to stay together and the management which includes dispatchers are on the other side. the money is great for a labor type job and I did meet and still miss some really good people on the operator side. the job security is there and the people that get booted don't follow company policy of which there are many. as far as training and taking you from a car license to a bus endorsement the training prior to and at your garage is very high level. I did this for two years as I had an in and out time frame for the position. would I go back? no in that the stress will come from many sources you won't see while training or getting your cdl.
Pros
money
Cons
split shifts, winter driving, construction

comments about Pace
Bus Operator (Former Employee) –  Melrose Park, ILApril 21, 2017
Pace management would retaliate against drivers suspend drivers for minor infraction and if a passenger call in on a driver they would believe the passenger

The worst coworker, unqualified supervisor experience i have ever had.
Sign and Shelter (Former Employee) –  Melrose Park, ILFebruary 21, 2017
If your young and like working around childish coworkers, talked to like your 2 years old by the unqualified supervisor everyday, and work with unsafe equipment, then this is the perfect job for you. Working safely does not exist, cause you work at your own risk, and management does not care.
Pros
Work/Life
Cons
Childish Coworkers, unqualified supervisor, and working at your own risk.

Terrible job with terrible hours and pay
Bus Operator (Former Employee) –  Joliet, ILJuly 12, 2016
The hours are bad, you get 4-5 hour splits in between your shift. When your part-time you only get up to 31 hours. Your shift change every 3 months and they are based on seniority, so more than likely you are going to get a bad shift. You only get 3 chances to mess up a year and you're gone. Believe me those mess ups come quick and you will be held accountable even if it's not your fault. The union is weak and a waste of pay, because you will pay! For uniforms and all!!!

Bus Operator (Current Employee) –  Evanston, ILJuly 9, 2016
If you want to work slit shifts, odd hours, never knowing your schedule for more than a few months, virtually no opportunity for full-time, no benefits and be under continuous threat of termination, Pace is your company. Never seen a company abuse its workers as badly as Pace.

Bus Operator (Current Employee) –  Melrose Park, ILJuly 7, 2016
Don't waste your time. Hours are terrible if you're partime. Money is terrible average pay 315.00 a week. Work a few hours in AM Rush and then you are off work and return in late Afternoon Rush. You are at work 12-15 hours a day and only get paid for 8. You start part time with no benefits and may be part time for almost 2 years. You are scheduled for 30 hours but not guaranteed because they will take your schedule and give it to full-time employees. High TURNOVER!!! people are FIRED 75% of the time the other 25% QUIT!!!
