Good learning opportunity

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
- Flexible hours, you make your own schedule but might need to be present at certain hours. - Lower pay than other biotech companies, as it is a small scale company.- Lovely area and overlooks the water (that brings me joy)- I have witnessed instances of unequal opportunities (promotion) and pay to women employees.

Pros

flexible hours

Cons

unequal pay

Not worth it

The studies and work is interesting but the nothing can compensate for the amount of energy and stress required to deal with rude, immature, and irresponsible coworkers 8 hours a day.

Accountability and workload come and go

This job can be high stress with poor mid-management. The amount of work is never, stable leaving you with either nothing to do or entirely too much. High turn over rates are a problem but can represent an opportunity. overall, to be successful, Its important to get meaning from what you do and not the money or management recognition.

good place to start

Its a great place to start your career. They provide a lot of experience and skills you may not learn at a big company. If you like being busy, this is the place for you!

pretty bad lab (PBL)

Poorly run company. Family owned and incompetent. Understaffed, substandard equiment, low pay, sketchy reputation, little support. The workload is extreme. Some cool people there, but the overall culture is awful.

Run, don't walk away

This place is the thing of nightmares. The management has no idea how anything works within the department. And is incredibly condescending and disrespectful to the lab techs, CAMs, and leads. Training is awful. The manager hands out so much work that when one is supposed to train a new hire you just don't have the time, or you do a sub-par training session. The work-life balance here is non-existent. You will work an obscene amount of over-time. The only benefit about working here is the over-time pay (you know if you don't care about having a life outside of this place). HR is a joke because they can't do anything effective because they have no real authority. If you value you your: time, sanity, health, self esteem, and/or self pride then don't work here.

Workload is too much

Management takes on too many clients and ignores how busy their departments are and expects all employees to compensate for their lack of leadership. Technicians are overloaded with studies and are under unrealistic time constraints considering how much work is given. This causes the work to be rushed, which leads to many mistakes. Management does not do a good job at training staff and ensuring all areas of their department are covered. Turn over is high and new hires are given too much work they do not understand. Too much lab work does not allow adequate time for reviewing of studies and thus, results are delayed. Management needs to invest in proper training for their staff and provide the appropriate support.

Pros

overtime aplenty, nice area

Cons

too much work, not enough trained staff, old equipment, high turn over

Just don't bother

No room for any type of suggestions/recommendations here if you're a minority. You get treated worse than cattle as they don't see you a human being, but rather a robot instead. You're disrespected, demeaned, demoralized, patronized, and belittled on a daily basis by co-workers and principal investigators if you are minority. You are constantly told if you're not happy with how you are treated you can leave and shown the door. The morale is non-existent. The job is just a way to pay your bills and barely at that. Backstabbing, sabotaging, and losing documentation is the name of the game at this place. If you're white and kiss management's behind you get a dollar raise and a lot more responsibilities without the title to put on your resume. There's no health and safety here and ergonomics don't exist here. I am currently looking for another job while still working here along with 4 other of my co-workers. We are all hoping to find a new job at a new company before the end of this year.

Pros

Drinking beer behind the dumpster with co- workers

Cons

Everything

Productive and fun

Working in this company is very challenging, sometimes stressful. Employees were given a chance to better themselves. Everyone is allowed to voice their ideas during daily meetings before starting their routine works. Although it is a multi cultural environment, everyone seems to blend with one another. A weekly Company training or meeting is required for all employees to attend. The hardest part of the job is when a lot of test request is received in one day and has due dates for the results, activity is strenuous and stressful. Employees help one another when project is complicated. The most enjoyable part is when special projects passed the test under any regulatory body or any R&D studies becomes successful, company celebrates with the employees.

Pros

2 coffee breaks, AM and PM. Employees are allowed to attend seminars c/o Company

Cons

Bulk of work sometimes requires more time to work. Stressful

Great place to learn

PBL provides testing services to other bioscience companies. It is a fast paced environment and can be stressful at times. But it's a great place to learn about FDA regulated industries. Management isn't perfect but is committed work-life balance for employees, and to helping those who put in the effort to advance their careers. Pay is just OK, benefits are pretty good including a decent 401k match.

Pros

Learning opportunities, positive culture, great location

mismanaged company

A mismanaged company during my tenure. Not enough trained staff to work efficiently. The QA team did not enforce the rules equally. Also, the sample receiving team was disorganized and poorly managed.

Good experience, but you won't move up the ladder

You will be asked to take on more work without fair pay. You will learn a lot and fast, but will never feel like you're compensated fairly.

Interesting field with knowledgeable and friendly people to work with

As a person in the health care profession, working for a contract research organization broaden my knowledge on process of development and manufacturing of drug products and medical devices. Being in a biotech industry has increased my interest on the "behind the scene" of drugs and instruments that are being utilized by end users (health care professionals to patients). I have learned a lot from the chemists and scientists that I have worked with.

Pros

Good working environment.

Cons

Low salary

Fun workplace

Fun workplace but at times stressful. I learned a lot of office skills. The hardest part of the job was being under staff. The most enjoyable part of the job is the time flexibility.

Pros

Flexible time

Cons

Low salary
