N/A long hours, upper management is not good, no guidelines for pay, pto, or disciplinary actions. Decent pay and good benefits. Working night shift we barely see upper management

This job is good for young people. The job itself will take you nowhere. A typical day is 12hrs. A typical week is 60hrs. It will take you at least 7yrs to get to day shift.

Hostler Driver (Former Employee) –  Haslet, TXAugust 10, 2018
They will fire you on the spot it’s a buddy buddy system so advancement is based on your buddies. Some of the ramp managers are alright but as I said very cut throat and buddy buddy. Some can miss days on days and keep their jobs others get cut quick.

Hostler Driver (Former Employee) –  Haslet, TXJune 8, 2018
The management is terrible. They preach safety from the top but usually only after an accident or injury. Outside of the office it is get it done, take shortcuts. A lot of employees work at risk of being injured.
Pros
it is a job

The practice you get learning to back up different size trailers is worth the issues they have.

GET YOUR REST, CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
12 hour shift, you working 98% of your weekends, six day week are very coming. Be on time, you working outside so when it's hot it's very hot and when it's cold it's very cold. Get a rain suit, jacket and pants.

Load Planner (Former Employee) –  North Lake, ILMay 22, 2018
It could be stressful when you don't have the equipment you need to fully function but on a normal day it's fast paced, fun. Manager was everything he could do it all & taught all. It was like working with family no matter the race

Groundmen/Hostler Driver (Former Employee) –  Alliance, TXApril 17, 2018
It was a Long day of work but was fast pace moving trailer to and from the track. At the start of each day the supervisor would tell us what was coming in and witch track to start to start on. From there we would break into different teams doing the task to prep the track to pulling away the trailers. That would be done all night until it was time to go home.

LOADING AND RAMP MANAGER (Former Employee) –  Denver, COMarch 18, 2018
Wait for train, unload train.

I learned to operate a "piggy packer". this loads and unloads shipping containers and semi trailers on/off rail cars. also, railroad safety was of upmost priority.

The shift/ramp managers were pure motivators. These men lead by example.

This industry is definitely male driven, long hours in the elements.

The hardest part of this job is six days on one off, every week, all year.

Benefits is the most enjoyable part of this job.

Yard Jockey (Current Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAMarch 1, 2018
If you like to work 60+ hours every week, no breaks, constant management disapproval, no advancement ever all while driving around in circles while management sits around in a truck doing nothing this job is perfect. I’ve seen a couple Rail Logistics jockey trucks in the yard lately so with any luck maybe they will take us over soon.
Pros
Sweat pants to work!!!!!
Cons
Everything else
