Paragon Systems is face paced, some management doesn't care about employees but always states they do. Management doesn't back up employees. Work place is not a great environment.

Protective Officer (Current Employee) –  Louisville, KYJuly 1, 2018
Career pays well however it’s practically impossible to get time off for any reason. Contractors get bare minimum on benefits and no paid sick time unless it’s 3 consecutive days.
Pros
Pay scale
Cons
Contract so no great benefits

Human Resource Generalist/Recruiter (Former Employee) –  Herndon, VAJune 29, 2018
Good place for the officers, not so much to the corporate personnel. No sense of leadership in management. Management was very unprofessional and unethical. Unfair pay, you could have the same work/experience as a white person but if you are a minority will get underpaid EVERYTIME. Though there’s place for advancement (turnover ratio is so high) You get trained poorly and communication sucks, making your job very difficult. Workloads and “special projects” can get out of hand at times but “it’s the job” so you got to make it work. You have to travel to other states for contract transition job fairs and hire 300+ in a weekend, host this event with a crazy schedule and participate for free if you are a salary employee (management sees it as a free vacation but in no way is remotely close to it when you work until 7pm or 10pm)
Pros
ree parking, free Friday bagels, occasional lunch.
Cons
No training, poor management, poor pay

Great Company
Security Officer (Former Employee) –  Greenville, SCJune 9, 2018
The typical work week was Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm. I was assigned to different areas: SSA in Greenville, CIS in Greer, and finally, the US Attorney's Office in Greenville.

Management was approximately two hours away in Columbia, SC. The job culture was different in each location: one site included interacting with immigrants and their families, while another site involved interaction with lawyers and / or politicians.

The hardest part of the job was the mentality of knowing that I was the only guard there. Any emergency phone calls would be routed to a call center in Atlanta, GA, who would phone the local authorities.
Pros
Great pay and work hours
Cons
Only one person assigned to a faciiity

Armed Federal Security Contractor (Current Employee) –  Columbus, OHJune 6, 2018
Unstable job. Could lose your job for anything. Pays well for the work but no opportunities for advancement. You know your schedule about a week in advance and there is no paid leave for the first year. After the first year you only get 7 days of leave.

Contracted armed security officer (Former Employee) –  Manchester, NHJune 4, 2018
Federal office buildings are somewhat clean, there is sometimes a break room, the co workers are genuinely decent people, and you are required to annually recertify on your CPR/AED, O.C and Baton, fire arms qualification, and every 2 months you must show knowledge of using X-ray and metal detector wands. every three years you must attend a 40 hour "smart" training class and pass your annual physical.
Pros
depends on what you expect from this company
Cons
management isnt that good with scheduling and clash with unions

Great pay, terrible management
Protective Security Officer (Current Employee) –  Wilkes-Barre, PAMay 6, 2018
The job itself is Great besides having to deal with the middle man, the company.
The turn over rate is horrible, We never have a full staff.
The management is horrible.
The company is very cheap. They'd pay minimum wage if they could.
If there was no union involved then I say the job wouldn't be worth it, however because of the PSO's being unionized I'd say its worth a shot, as long as you pass the 90 day probationary period, because than your in the union.
Pros
Great pay, and the union
Cons
Terrible management, bad turn over rate

Decent pay but management needs work.
Federal Security Officer (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAApril 28, 2018
.Typical day consisted of patrols on federal property . Checking for unsafe conditions, unlocked doors, any security violations.

. Learned how to use a 9mm Glock 17. Always cover yourself when it comes to documentation.

. Management could use some management. Not very understanding of personal issues.

. Workplace culture is very important. Organization is everything. Paragon was not very organized.

. The job itself was not hard at all. Having to deal with management on a daily basis was.

. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with many people on a daily basis.
Pros
The way our 401k was set up.

Paragon is a good place to work if you want to establish a career in the security field. A good place to get knowledge and gain experience along the way. The people are great, opportunity is there, management will help you gain experience.

Quality pay and training.. but that's about it.
Armed Security Officer (Current Employee) –  Cleveland, OHApril 22, 2018
I came to Paragon Systems with high expectations. Like many security personnel, I came from a military background. I had left my unarmed position for this one, and was just caught off guard by the lack of respect that runs rampant within the company. Supervisors show zero respect for your personal life, and other officers show little respect for their peers. The Cleveland zone is gossip central, and other guards rat on and report other guards in a minute. There are some co-workers you can trust, but overall, I feel very insecure at my job.

I do my best to perform my job "by the book," but still am disappointed at the lack of respect PSO's receive from their supervisors, and from FPS (Federal Protective Service.) The money is great, but I really can't think of much that keeps many of us holding on.

At some posts, especially the AJC Federal Building, the employees who we are supposed to protect, don't even like us there. You are a punching bag for the public, at times. The new hires will receive the worst posts and the worst hours, without much regard for your personal lives. Management will tell you that you start out at part-time, but at the same time, have you work over 50 hours a week.

Just beware of these things before you take the job. It isn't all bad. But ask yourself, is the money worth it?
Pros
Quality pay, Quality training, Always hours available if you want them.
Cons
Hours starting out are bad, new hires receive the worst posts and very inconsistent schedules, constantly being disliked for doing your job.

The co-workers on sites are great to work with, but the company itself does not value their employees. Pay was great, but will the stress be worth it.....?
