I wish I had an answer. But I think greater advocacy and lobbying is needed on a managed care level. Also, a form of accountability for clients - such as no show fees. In a given day I could work 10 hours but only see 4 clients because the rest don't show up. This is standard for healthcare (as I've changed jobs and seen how it plays out in hospital settings) but to require staff to meet a quota dependent on the client's decision to attend or not creates expedited burn out. I began to see my patients as numbers towards my quota and knew that it was time for me to leave.
