No work life balance. Favoritism at its best.
Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Phoenix, AZJanuary 25, 2019
I would not recommend this place if you have a family. They pretend family comes first with their core values yet they hold meetings until 11pm and expect you to work 11-12 hours for 5 days a week. Their managers get special treatment and don’t have to work Sundays and some managers take whole weekends off while their employees are missing out family time. They play favorites to the max. If you’re a good sales person, they do pay pretty decent. The managers are all jerks and think they can treat people however they want. People talk a lot of bad about other people. The only good thing is that it’s a pretty easy job at $15-16 an hour for most employees. Managers are getting paid from 24-31 an hour. They try to screw you over with your pay rate if you do not stand up for yourself. Another good thing is during their pointless meetings, you get to get wasted for free and sometimes get a free hotel room. You might be home late or not go home at all... but at least you were able to have a good time and see all the big bosses wasted and managers doing drugs. Some people enjoy it, but if you want a career and looking for balance and aren’t a manager or top salesman, this is not for you.
Pros
Lunches, free alcohol.
Cons
Micromanage, no life work balance, favorites, take advantage of employees

Poor Management
Interview (Former Employee) –  Tucson, AZSeptember 13, 2018
I interviewed with this company and I must said the professionalism isn't there with top management or managers. They used you in the process of interviewing and they said they will pay you for shadowing on the job which they don't finally they have no courtesy to tell you. You got the job or not and they don't pay your time. Please run from this company because they have no clue how to run the company. I have no idea how top management and managers got their position because their management skills aren't there. They keep running the add for employment using people to their advantage. I would said to this be careful and look somewhere else for work because this is not the place where they will be happy one way or another. They have their own culture that is all negative and it works for them to keep these kind of people and if you are too smart for this position you will intimidate managers and top management taking you off the job or not given you the change to proof your skills.
Poor...Poor industry I would not recommend any body to use their services unless you are desperate but even desperate people have some dignity to be treaded like human beings.
Please give yourself a favorite you are a human being looking for work and you know how much you are worth don't let this company or let them tread you so inhumane.

new ceo and managment dotn care about employess just money
Loans Officer (Former Employee) –  ArizonaJuly 26, 2018
all i have to say this place is horrible to work for since these new ceo and management from smart financial took over . with old company it was a family atmosphere. overtime, raise on the spot if you should that you grew in company moved up fast... relax sales structure can go to manger and talk to them get a answer on the spot..

these new guys ceo founder/management is looking to just make more money for his investors so cut employee wages no raises no sales no overtime ( you can get in trouble if you get overtime) cant have the freedom to sale used tools that are always over priced . everyday is a new rule or punishment for employees.they want goals every week but wont let you sale...always want to undermine you make you look bad .

managers think they are above god they act like being the manger at a pawnshop is a like being a Doctor half the time they dont have the skill to take care of customer and dont know the job ..smart financial goons turned a good pawnshop into a low balling hustler dirty shop all stores are dirty manager just want the to make numbers or they get yelled at by the DMs that are useless as well ....this job is good for someone out of high school or Ged that dont want to move up and live like a homeless person .
Pros

Managment and ceo changes every 4 months.
Sales Executive (Former Employee) –  ArizonaMarch 22, 2018
Managers and CEO change all the time. The previous hard work and Goals met tend to disappear when the managers and Ceo change.
What they start people at is a lie. I started at 10.50/Hr. You will not be taken care of in this company unless you are a manager or higher. They do not care about the foot soldiers. They do offer commission on sales but they wont let you sale to people who are tax exempt. Even though the Managers can sell to people that are tax exempt and it counts towards their monthly bonus. Like I said they don't take care of the foot soldiers.

Pawn 1st was acquired in November 2016 and there has been no change in leadership since that time. Recent acquisitions in the market have been added to the brand.

Pawn1st was the best choice for me !
Management & Educational / Training Systems (Former Employee) –  Scottsdale, AZJanuary 9, 2016
Basically I gained 10 years experience in 3 years because of the volume of business and the wide range of customers & clients. The management is evolving rapidly and does better & better each year. The owners are solid & trustworthy. pawn1st does experience it's share of insecurity and petty non-sense with DM's & managers & employees and hard workers may get overlooked by the top executives, however my experience was not like that. I found that every one is approachable and can listen. don't be a cry baby and be ready to work hard and work smart or you won't enjoy your job. It;s all about helping those in need and solving alot of problems for a lot of people. I enjoyed doing large high end loans and never is a loan too large to do. pay is modest and incentives are weak, but they just introduced health care benefits so that's a big start and a benefit that will attract better qualified employees all around. They have employees that have been there since the inception and the general turn over is slowing down with better management. Overall it is good company that is likely to be around until some disruptive technology destroys the pawn business as we know it ! It may evolve and become more tech savvy - it's hard to say? But by comparision to other pawn locations PAwn1st is by far the leading company to work for, with, and to learn from. Cheers
Pros
health benefits, high end loans, high end clients, advanced education & training provided
Cons
management on salary works 45+, good teams & crews get split up, no incentives

Great coworkers
Collection Agent /Pawn Broker (Former Employee) –  Phoenix, AZNovember 5, 2015
Culture was nonexistent. No benefits and many hours on your feet required. Scottsdale location was the best for customers and many customers were like family had been coming in for years. Once the district management change was made, and employees were transferred customers started noticing and complaining about the service. They need to hire a few robots and they will be all set. Thats the service they give to even the best, and oldest customers.
Pros
Great coworkers
Cons
no benefits long hours and no acknowledgement for your efforts

Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Phoenix, AZSeptember 12, 2013
Responsible for the opening and closing of the store on a daily basis. Helped employees count and dispurse their cash. Managed daily and monthly reports for corporate and city audits. Created training packets for new and excisting employees. Responsible for monthy audits conducted by either ATF or local law enforcement.
The best part of my job was being able to train and motivate employees. I was excited to go to work everyday and bring what I had learned in school into the work force. The hardest part of my job was customer relations. Customers have difficult lives sometimes and rely on certain people in business to help them the best we can, so not being able to meet all of the needs of my customers was really the hardest part of my job.
