Feel so sorry for those children
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant (Former Employee) –  Doylestown, PAJune 10, 2018
The level of care these children need compared to the
amount of staff during the 11pm-7am shift as a CNA is unrealistic.
1 Aide should not be responsible for an ENTIRE FLOOR.
It is impossible to give even decent care to that many patients.
I wouldve loved to have stayed but the work load is way to heavy.
There was 1 night that the aide I was orienting with had to do both levels by themselves. Another night on orientation they sent me to another site and wanted me to take care of patients I knew nothing about.
Pros
not sure
Cons
lack of proper staffing

Disturbing truth
RN (Current Employee) –  Point Pleasant, PAFebruary 8, 2018
Unfortunately, this facility has the potential to offer a lot for its residents and staff, however, it’s primary focus is monetary gain rather than creating a safe environment for both residents and staff.

The Medical Director (house DR) is said to round once weekly when in reality it is sometimes monthly and without any direct patient contact. RN and RT meet resistance when they feel a resident may need further assistance via sending to the hospital. Time has demonstrated how delaying this necessary patient-care leads to delayed treatment and even delay in new diagnoses. Just for reference, the facility is not payed any time residents are sent and admitted to the hospital.

Staffing is a CONTINUOUS issue that is never truly resolved. High nurse-to-patient ratios, understaffed nurse techs, along with the expectation of working beyond your contractual hours leads to a constantly revolving door. It doesn’t help that new nurses are even orienting newer nurses due to lack of long-term employees within the facility. Numerous times orienting RNs are taken off of orientation for a shift to fill a void and then placed back on orientation the following shift. This is neither safe for the residents or the newer, inexperienced nurses. Pay is NOT competitive and benefits continue to decline from their already subpar status.

Management treats “floor” staff poorly, simply stated. High demands with zero appreciation. Face-to-face communication is management’s preferred method of communication since they deny anything that lacks a paper trail. Issues and concerns brought to their
  more... attention are often disregarded.

Staff also meets exceeding frustration from lack of adequate supplies. Forget Evidenced Based Practice that you have learned about because this facility operates strictly off of the cheapest quality of supplies in order to continue to meet the yearly budget cuts to keep costs low for the owner.

Furthermore, the most disturbing aspect is the level of deceit and lack of ethical decision-making that exists. It is evident through observation of the level of care due to lack of adequate support, resources, and staff. If uncertain about the veracity of the aforementioned, then join the PSC team and see for yourself.

Love of Children
NURSE/MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAJanuary 26, 2018
An overall nice place to work. I love children so it was a place I looked forward to going to. You had to be able to keep your feelings under control because it was a little difficult to see the condition of some of the children. The co-workers were friendly easygoing people truly enjoyed working there.

Constantly under staffed
Nurse Technician (Former Employee) –  Pipersville, PAJanuary 18, 2018
The most enjoyable part of the job are the patients that you take care of. They are constantly under staffed and some of the employees that
work there are unhelpful at times and it's a stressful place to work.
If you work there, be prepared to stay past the hours that you were hired to work because there will be a lot of times where there will not be a relief for you.

Stressful
Nursing Assistant (Current Employee) –  point pleasant_doylestown_quakertown_PhiladelphiaJanuary 9, 2018
This is a very understaff place. Managment is terrible. They have no consideration for their employees. Managment team also seems confused or not knowledgeable about how to run a business. The amount of work they want you to do is ridiculous by yourself especially if you work at one of their houses. They want you to take care of 6-8 kids. The problem is there is a lot of lifting they expect you to mop floors take out trash do laundry while the RN and LPN do nothing but give meds. Plus you have to do your regular assignments changing and bathing kids and dressing them. They are teenagers so its a lot. No thank you. I worked a 16hr shift with a 30min break?

Wonderful children
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) –  Aliquippa, PAOctober 23, 2017
The best part of this job is taking care of the wonderful children. Nurses and nurse techs learn so much about the children and their diagnosis. There are always respiratory therapists on each shift that provide excellent care. This is a fast paced work environment with alarms constantly going off. The hardest part of the job is working short staffed. Direct caregivers are expected to provide care to these fragile children without an adequate staff. Management is poor and money comes before the care of the children.

Amazing place to work, management as well as clinical staff all help to assure that patients are well cared for and watched over. Hardest part of the job is trying to not get attached to the children.

Work can be stressful, kids are the best part of the job.
Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse (Former Employee) –  Lancaster, PAJuly 13, 2017
The children really are the best part of working here. The ability to connect with them on a deep level due to frequent interactions with them really made me love what I do. The work environment and the upper management is really what caused the most stress. There are often poor staffing ratios due to high turnover and that doesn't benefit the children that you are caring for. Upper managements policies often seem more concerned with issues other than what is best for the children. I found the stress and negative feelings of upper management trickled down to the other staff involved, making typical work days stressful.
Pros
learning experiences related to children with special needs
Cons
unhealthy staffing ratios and stressful work environment

Rewarding job with many learning and advancement opportunities
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  PhiladelphiaMarch 20, 2017
The kids are the most amazing part of the job. It is not an easy job due to the acuity of some of the children but worth every minute. Great experience with vent/trach patients, great support from intelligent and hardworking RT staff to teach and support you. Difficulties with staffing ratios, employee benefits and salaries could be improved. Culture is improving and staff appreciation and team building has become a goal of upper management which is great. With a positive attitude and hire of employees who love their job and these kids the potential to be an amazing place which is much needed in Philadelphia.

children, opportunity to learn and grow as a nurse, advancement, staff
