Very limited opportunity for advancement, some slight nepitism, but overall great culture, and limited resource.
Wildlife department - great people, great protocols, excellent source of education.

Working here has been a blast! The people are all very passionate about animals and have a strong desire to help those in need. You get hands on training and learn new things every day.

Meet a lot of people, make a difference, constantly learning, really nice facility
Cons
No benefits as a seasonal employee, pay isn't great, strict management policies

Wildlife Technician (Former Employee) –  Burlingame, CAMarch 6, 2018
Cohesive environment, only seasonal so no chance of career advancement.
Had to get a full time job, so started working for the Lindsay. Miss PHS very much, but I hear it has changed quite a bit in terms of new management.

effective and enjoyable place to TLC animals
Volunteer (Current Employee) –  Burlingame, CAJune 14, 2017
A typical day at work is filled with TLC, Tender Loving Care, for dogs. Caring for these dogs takes patience, and I learned to care for these hurt animals with self-control yet persistence so they don't withdraw. The balance needed to make the dogs comfortable is challenging, yet also rewarding. When the dogs do become comfortable around you, it is most enjoyable when they walk right up to you and beg for your attention rather than hiding in the corner. In addition, the management is incredibly helpful and creates an environment of enjoyment and optimism. All in all, volunteering for this humane society is a real treat not only to the dogs but to the volunteers as well.
Pros
Spending time with animals

Student Volunteer (Former Employee) –  Newport News, VAOctober 22, 2015
I enjoyed the people I worked with, and the cats. It was nice to gain customer service experience, and to make friends with my coworkers.
