I would work 5 hour shifts per request ( I had full time employment elsewhere) but management worked a good 8-9 hour shifts or open to close, whatever the store required.
My store volume is moderate so I often have double coverage and can take a break, however every other store within a 25 mile radius of me is almost always on single coverage with no breaks.
Usually by yourself for multiple hours without an actual break.
It really depends. They deffenitly do take advantage of you being there but the shifts can range anywhere from 4 to 8 hours.
If you are management, it will vary. dont be shocked if you get a 50-80 hour work week. Associates will never be taken over 35 hours.
You have to work 9 hours a day and they don't enforce breaks.

I got reasonable hours while I was in school working part time about 16-20 hours a week and 4 hour shifts.

They are long and they are usually busy. There is always something to do as they say whether it is helping a customer, re-doing a store product section or cleaning.
