I was so HAPPY when I got hired at petco. It's been my dream to actually work at a place that cares so much for the animals and helps employees learn about actual healthy BUT affordable nutrition. I quit a full time job (great pay, no nights, no weekends, if weather was bad the manager would call and say not to come in because they care more about their employee's safety) to work at Petco. Which was only part time with a small pay decrease. I didn't care about losing my past job benefits because I wanted to be apart of petco. Working at petco is actually quite very difficult. It's a skeleton crew where only 2 people open and close so our customer service can be barley upkeep is lacking. After covid19 and hours changed with morning animal care. You would have an hour to feed and clean the animals but NOW you only have 15 minutes to do so. 15 minutes is NOT enough. The whole idea is to do animal care and be at the register when the store opens. Now, you have 15 minutes to do this and it's not easy because only 2 employees work each shift and customers get very upset if your attention isn't focused only THEM. This is another contribution to our customer service problem. Having several people open and close would be far more beneficial to everyone. It is pretty annoying that you have to get your manager to put in their numbers when price matching, discounting, and unlock the register. Only 2 people work at a time so if needing those numbers, the manager has to quit what they are doing to come up to the register. Customers get upset about the wait time and take it out on the employee. Also about wearing masks...yes petco provided them to employees, BUT the material isn't breathable. Im all about wearing masks to help this pandemic, but when having to pickup large bags of high qualities while wearing a mask makes you dizzy to the point almost passing out. If we had better masks this wouldn't be a problem. So when hauling large bags, you CANNOT wear a mask. We also have regular customers who are deaf and need to read our lips. Also I dislike that if a single mouse is in need of medical attention, unless another animal that is deemed more important will be vetted and then the mouse would be vetted too. It's not fair that a mouse (because it maybe used as food, Petco not wanting to pay a vet bill for a 5.99 mouse, or their short life span isn't worth saving) is seen as unimportant
