Prime example of the much needed advancement in our field

My time at PetFolk has been positive. The company takes their time to thoughtfully scale in comparison to other startups I've worked in. They prioritize internal structure before rolling out changes and are critical in their staffing choices, only placing individuals best fit for their role, in their role. The overall culture is good and the main focus is on the pets and their owners - working toward advances in virtual care and providing gold standard care to in-person appointments. I feel supported and cared for as an employee within my team with ease of access professionally and personally to those immediately above me.

Pros

Good company culture and message, great internal teams, in it together to help pets, 4-day work week/flex schedule

Cons

Not many at this time, this is still a startup so may not be the best fit for everyone

Best Job EVER

Petfolk is a rapidly growing company with lots of career advancement opportunities. The management is eager to hear my ideas and thoughts, and I see (in real time) suggested changes for improvement in all areas of operations. My teammates are experienced, and dedicated to veterinary medicine which makes coming to work a pleasure. . Employee moral and culture is a priority from day one and you can clearly tell the level of importance stems from the founders. I was going to leave the industry, but thankfully Petfolk found me and has restored my faith. It is possible to work in a positive environment, provide excellent veterinary care, maintain a healthy work/life balance, make good money and be a part of an amazing veterinary team!

Pros

Positive Culture, Excellent Veterinary Medicine, Benefits

Cons

Not as many locations as there needs to be (yet!!)

PetFolk made me feel appreciated

In the time I have been with PetFolk, I have not met anyone, from the CEO down, who has not made time for me and any questions I may have. At the end of every conversation while on-boarding I was asked if there was anything that could be done to make my transition easier. Now that I am working here, the entire team works to support one another and make sure everyone feels valued.

Overall solid for DVMs + long term POV

- Actually care about the doctors, technicians and staff. Flexible schedules give better working hours.- Common set of systems at the clinics helps with workflow. Virtual care team actually helps DVMs in clinics- Opp's for training / advancement (both DVMs and techs)- Management has good combination of medical and business. CEOs (co-CEOs) bring the right combination. Built with an eye towards a sustainable business vs. one where DVMs aren't valued as much

Innovative and pet focused company, dedicated to high quality medicine

I have loved the transition and experience so far. As trite as it sounds that Petfolk is focused on changing veterinary medicine I do feel that I have seen them put their money where their mouth is. I love the fear free focus, the virtual visit option to help increase availability to the pet parents, the focus on tools and technology to improve workflow and efficiency, the transparency (physically in the buildings and in communication), the support and availability of the other doctors, and the focus on education and time spent with the owners. I was in a high volume practice previously and am absolutely loving the ability to sit down and talk with the owners. While doctor's schedules are set up far in advance by necessity, I have been very impressed by the flexibility and ability to get time off as things come up. All in all, I would strongly recommend Petfolk both as a place to work or as a place to take your pets!

Pros

Cutting edge technology, Focus on high quality medicine, focus on client education and communication, great culture and staff, actively involved management that listens to feed back, time dedicated to training, employee pet care plan

Cons

Since it is a new company there is a lot of change and bumps as things are figured out

High hopes dashed early on.....

I joined Petfolk with high hopes of being part of something striving to be different and change the face of pet care. It was different, but not how I expected. The veterinary medicine practiced is industry standard which is the positive. However, the lack of respect, direction, and opportunity, especially for vet assistants and techs, married with uninspiring management was truly deflating. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Pros

Remote work, health benefits good

Cons

Non supportive environment, lack of good management

Great place to work! Evolutionary vet med!

Petfolk has a wonderful mission and truly stands behind that mission. Absolutely love the Fear Free concept that is educated and practiced. Being able to provide high quality medicine both in the hospital and seamlessly virtually is incredible to be apart of. Management is super supportive and always available to help when needed. Co workers are talented and very compassionate towards pet parents. Such a great group of people whole love what they do!

Pros

Schedule, benefits, support, growth, great staff

Cons

Nice coworkers, bad medicine

The medicine practiced isn’t great. High volume low patient care. Lots of mistakes made! Low pay for certified technicians. Basically data entry work. Hover like management

Pros

Work from home

Cons

Pay, medicine, management

We strive to create a culture that values and encourages the success of our employees, and it's great to see that reflected in your experience.

A company that should succeed but not built for success

Management is THE issue. It is quite difficult to get in contact with the higher up. If you need a task done, as busy as she is, you have to ask several times and sometimes still will not get done. A good amount of people within the company all came from a previous company together. It has caused a lot of cliques and alot of uncomfortable moments. For instance one tech is always rude/condescending and only helpful to those they choose. While them being the issue you could never bring that up to the manager due to the nature of their relationship. Raises never happen, and you can feel and visibly see who is and isn’t a favorite. The companies values are what made me stay a little longer. Fear free is a concept I’ve grown fond of. Audrey, the CEO, is a brilliant women with a wonderful vision. The management just absolutely sours that experience, and takes away from the gold of the company. The wages they are offering are not worth what comes with the company

They make a lot of promises but never go through with them

I was really excited for this job. They made it out to seem wonderful. A woman-led industry that wants to look at veterinary care differently? Amazing. In theory, it is perfect. But in practice, it was a joke. We were promised flexible scheduled and continuous training, then told to deal with it when the expectations didn't align with the job description. They encourage growth, but then management gets angry when you try and improve. The entire management team is egotistical and squanders the potential of their employees. The only thing I liked about working here was the coworkers. Everyone was absolutely amazing and willing to teach and support one another. Without them, I would have left much sooner. The clinic is also fear-free, which is amazing. All the employees treat pets with the upmost care and respect, which can be sparse in the veterinary industry. The only issue is management, and it is a BIG issue. They pay management a ridiculous amount of money to step on the "little guys". They harp that they are different than large corporations and that they value their employees, but it's just a farce. This company is all talk. It's a shame, because the actual practice is phenomenal. Management just needs to stop talking about of their butts.

Pros

Fear free, coworkers, discounted vet care

Cons

Management, no improvement, chaotic

Thank you for your review of Petfolk. We're sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations. We value our employees and strive to provide a supportive and flexible work environment, so it's concerning to hear that this wasn't the case for you. However, we're glad to hear that you had positive experiences with your coworkers and that the clinic is dedicated to providing fear-free care for pets. Thank you for your time and feedback.

management talks a good game but doesn't live up to the hype

Petfolk sounds like a great place to work, and you have really great coworkers. Unfortunately, the management itself is lacking, and things can be toxic. There is a lot of cliques, and while I admit they are trying to fix things, the things that need to be fixed are not getting fixed fast enough. Weekends are urgent care when that was not a part of the job that I agreed to. The hospital is fear free which is great. I am concerned that they want to be an urgent care but are not set up to be, and am scared when something comes in that needs oxygen or CPR because oxygen is not easily accessible and no one is trained in CPR. The people you work with are great and knowledgeable, but if you are inexperienced you will not get the training that you need or deserve due to the fact that it is so busy. The health benefits are very good.

Culture can toxic

The culture is very difficult for the Veterinarians and para labor. The management for the practices barely exists and it usually causes more complications instead of assistance. The remote positions are long hours and not family friendly. The company talks a great game but they do not practice what they preach.

Pros

Your teammates are pretty awesome.

Cons

Everything else.

An amazing group of people with a unique perspective on life and work in the vet field

Though I am relatively new to One Vet, it is evident that this is a group of people that joined the profession and started a company for all the right reasons. When I interviewed I was surprised by how friendly and open everyone on the team was, almost to the point of being concerning. After working with everyone and getting to know them, I'm impressed and happy to have finally found my "unicorn" clinic. One Vet is new and growing so there are things that aren't set in stone yet, but management has done a great job of communicating what to expect and being transparent with the goals of the team. Unlike a lot of the places I have worked at, they seem to genuinely care about their people and they seem to know that putting their people first is good for their clients and patients and promotes the practice of best medicine.

Pros

The people, the company culture, the opportunities for advancement, shares of the company to all employees not just the vets.

Cons

Some things change more often than at a clinic that has been around awhile.
