I am 50 and was hired, but it isn't common in my store. My managers are very young and often make comments about "old people" applying for the jobs. I was hired by a previous manager who was much much better though.
I was hired twice by a wonderful Store Leader while in my 50s. There are a few employees that are over 40 in our store and she has expressed to me that if she could hire all older, mature employees she would, if more actually came looking for employment. I'd love it if there were more mature, grown up people working at my PetSmart.
At the Pet Smart store in Newburgh I have seen older people at the registers....that are well over 40 years of age.Nothing bad about that!!
I was hired at 66. One associate has been with San Antonio petsmart 26 years, another 20, all of us seniors. Managers are very young but that's only because we seniors don't want the responsibility (we know better lol) that comes with the job. I like my job as cashier and adoption ambassador and enjoy the youngsters (my grand children's ages). We've a mix of 2 females per male (no senior males; don't know why that is?). It can be strenuous so you do have to be healthy with a good attitude. I work from 25-30 hrs a week. I detest the constant sales pressure but like all we elders, we just ignore the propaganda. When its no longer fun, we'll no longer be there; that's the beauty at our age. Happiness more important than money (10.00). I also used their counseling service which was HIGHLY efficient and helpful for some personal problems I was experiencing. At my location its good to be a senior. I am well respected! But then I am an excellent employee too!!!
I'm 52. They just hired me today as a dog washer and said they'll put me through grooming school if I want.
Im 57 and its true always very young mostly girls, but Im applying with many years of cashiering and customer service. So Im crossing my fingers that they will hire me
Yes, they hire at any age that is 18 and older as long as you are able to meet the requirements of the job. Younger adults just happen to be the majority hired because they are the ones who gravitate towards it more. If more older adults applied to work there then we'd probably see more of them in the stores. Anyway, the biggest thing they wanted when I worked there was everybody, regardless of position hired, had to be able to lift up to at least 50lbs. Sometimes more.
I was hired as a cashier at age 48. There are 3 other workers who are my age or older at my store.
Federal law prohibits discrimination against people 40 or over. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but you should know that it's illegal.
