Great support for the community
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Kent, WA - May 8, 2021
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPoorly managed which created a toxic work environment and lots of turn over with employees. Favoritism for years of services vs job performance. Pretend to be inclusive but it’s only a facade. Manager never held herself accountable for errors and miscommunications instead would find excuses or others to blame. I loved my patients and the work I did however management is the reason turnover is so high at this specific location.
Pros
Giving back to the community, culturally inclusive
Cons
Lack of management skills, Toxic work environment, Under paid and under valued for the hard work

Fun place to get medical experience
HCA (Former Employee) - New York, NY - May 31, 2021
Management sucks at their jobs. We’re overworked and disrespected to the max. They don’t care about you having a life outside of work and you’re expected to work all day everyday. The patients are the only people that make the experience worth it while being here.
Pros
Learning experiences
Cons
Sucky manager

Not work life balance
Medical Assistant (Current Employee) - Bloomington, IL - May 25, 2021
Working here is not something I would recommend to anyone. They may start you off paying well but that is how they make up for how they treat you while you work there. They only care about the money not you.
Pros
Ok pay
Cons
Short breaks, bad management, poor work ethic

Pretty toxic behind the scenes
Nurse (Current Employee) - Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN - May 25, 2021
The people who make the money for the organization (CAs/HCAs, MAs, LPNs, RNs, providers) are paid too little for the hard work they do. Unreasonable expectations from higher-ups as far as patient scheduling and staffing workload. The health insurance benefits are subpar and there are no incentives to continue your education since there is very little room for professional growth and zero support with tuition assistance or reimbursement. I realize this is a non-profit, but the CEO of PPNCS is banking mid-six figures, so they're not doing too badly. Share the wealth and show your employees that you value them! There is a lot of lip service and very, very little action taken to make this a healthier, more-inclusive workplace.
Pros
Great co-workers, generally good teamwork, have built a lot of good relationships with my coworkers
Cons
Inconsistent enforcement of rules and policies, uneven disciplinary action that tends toward unfairly punishing POC, low pay and benefits

Top down culture
Health Center Manager (Former Employee) - Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN - May 23, 2021
There is a very top down culture at PP. managers are asked to enforce policies and programs they have no opportunity to provide feedback on, although there is a culture of “shared decision making” that really isn’t real for people below a director level. There is zero respect for clinical employees who are the primary revenue generators, which is unlike anything I’ve experienced in health care anywhere else. Additionally senior leadership tend to be so far removed from the front line employees they make off hand remarks that are distasteful and tone deaf. There is also a very “mission” driven belief that is not truly based on the mission of providing care, rather the political propaganda that is pushed through internal communications with PP being victims in everything. This is not the same company I signed up for when starting years ago and not one that I can continue to stand behind. The front line staff work hard, have low compensation (that is justified while promoting many administrative positions - very director heavy organization), and definitely are not recognized for the work they do outside of managers spending their own money to show their appreciation. They do promote from within but only if you are liked, even if you don’t have the skills or experience necessary to be successful in whatever role your given.
Pros
Colleagues
Cons
Culture, salary, constant change

Terrible management, unfair treatment based on seniority
Clinic Assistant (Former Employee) - West Hartford, CT - May 23, 2021
If I could rate PPSNE with 0stars I would. Worst “organization” to work for. Took 3mo to get uniforms, WH- unprofessional & irresponsible management.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Everything, underpaid, unfair treatment based on seniority.

Management is terrible
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Jacksonville, FL - May 22, 2021
The management is terrible. They talk about employees behind their backs. They show favoritism with certain employees and work the others to death. The schedule is terrible for a work life balance. You feel like you are always there.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Terrible management, no lunch breaks, no work life balance

Busy but fun place to work
Medical Assistant/ Manager (Current Employee) - Reno, NV - May 3, 2021
Best job I’ve ever head! Planned Parenthood Mar Monte really understands that people need to be paid a livable wage (starts at 19.35) and that we aren’t all robots and require time off for mental health reasons. They truly care about their employees and patients which isn’t something you see a lot of. It can definitely be a stressful and busy environment but if you work with the right group of people it can be fun!
Pros
Great pay! Management that understands the need for mental health days.
Cons
Insurance isn’t great because it’s based out of CA when we are in NV. Only 30 minute lunch breaks

Good place to work , needs to grow as a company.
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - New York State - May 3, 2021
The concept is amazing the infrastructure needs works. They need to do better with their employees. People work there because they believe in the mission not because of the paycheck.

Very rewarding and always learning and on your feet
Reproductive Health Assistant (Former Employee) - Wicker Park, IL - May 2, 2021
As a previous medical assistant I can say with confidence that Planned Parenthood shaped and prepared me for my clinicals and patient care. I was always learning something from everyone on the team; from my managers and nurse practitioners to the patients and volunteers. Never a dull day on the job and can be fast paced on full schedules.
Pros
great environment and work culture
Cons
short breaks

Jobs at Planned Parenthood
Good learning experience
Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (Former Employee) - Sarasota, FL - April 30, 2021
PPH is known for it's fostering growth and learning in a clinical environment. Good orientation period and will not abandon clinician until ready to practice independently.
Pros
Good learning experience
Cons
Pay and benefits not the greatest

Fast paced a lot of roles to play
Health Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Houston, TX - April 28, 2021
Although I enjoy a fast paced environment, what I didn’t enjoy was that management wanted me to learn everything in the first week of training. We are dealing with patient care and it is critical to rush someone through training. Also the manager was very rude and would make the employees cry. Too much work for little pay and rude management.
Pros
Learn something new everyday
Cons
Rude manager, underpaid

Underpaid, understaffed, overworked
HCA/Phlebotomist (Former Employee) - Springfield, OR - April 27, 2021
I was here for 2 years and finally had enough. You’re working 10.5 hours a day at time cause they over schedule staff with little staff. You are underpaid for the stress you get put through and all the work you have to do. Your coworkers are amazing and they are why I didn’t want to leave.
Pros
Fun coworkers, nice manager
Cons
Overworked, underpaid, understaffed, stress, mentally draining, don’t get off on time

Ok place to work, but minimal pay
Reproductive Health Specialist (Former Employee) - Concord, CA - April 23, 2021
The mission at planned parenthood is great, but as an RHS you often feel over worked and underpaid. The work environment can sometimes feel a little toxic.
Pros
Benefits
Cons
Pay

Great coworkers, lack of support
Medical Receptionist (Current Employee) - Eugene, OR - April 17, 2021
We are unionizing for a reason. They are really good at painting a picture that they are inclusive to everyone and that's not the case. Covid really hit us workers hard and it was difficult to find support from upper management. We are understaffed and underpaid for the jobs we do. My team was amazing and I felt right at home, but upper management has got some work to do if they want this to be a place people feel safe and heard in. Great stepping stone in the medical field, terrible pay/pay raises. The unionization will help a lot!
Pros
Great staff
Cons
Pay, benefits, upper management (CEO)

Not able to advance in the company.
MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST (Former Employee) - Memphis, TN - April 15, 2021
This place doesn't stand up for their employees. They want you to do many things and be skeptical on your pay. Their is no room for advancement in this company and you will NEVER go far here . Too many mandatory meetings and events that you really don't want ti attend but they make it mandatory to attend. Very toxic environment too.
Pros
Insurance for reproductive health
Cons
Short breaks meetings

It is alright
Health Center Assistant (Current Employee) - Denver, CO - April 11, 2021
The salaries are not competitive compared to roles with similar expectations. The schedule is very demanding and the push to offer excellent patient care regardless of the schedule often leads to employees forgetting self care. This is not necessarily the fault of the company, but it does say something that agency wide breaks are rarely taken and the turn over rate is high.
Pros
Amazing intelligent and passionate coworkers
Cons
No matter how well a health center preforms, they will always be asked to do more

Fun place to work!
Contact Center Representative (Former Employee) - California - April 6, 2021
Managers and co-workers are very close, like family. Work life balance hard sometimes due to being short staffed/employees quitting without notice. Great for students or someone who wants part time work.
Pros
down to earth managers, sometimes would cater lunch, pay is decent, encouraged community activities (ex: Pride, etc.)
Cons
30min lunch, always short staffed so hard to be reflexible with schedules

The mission and working with patients
Volunteer (Former Employee) - Manhattan, NY - April 3, 2021
It was a great place to work, but it needs some improvements- especially at the higher levels. The mission is important and I loved supporting that..

Hostile environment
Front office (Former Employee) - El Cajon, CA - April 2, 2021
Did not like how patients were treated no compassion. It was not a welcoming environment, everything was very corporate like no way around anything to try to get patients who couldn’t afford their services taken care of
