Amazing opportunity, company and people.

What is the best part of working at the company? If I could have worked forever at this company I would have. I love and miss it very much. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? They will work with you on anything and are very understanding, I was more than blessed to have gotten to work here. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Open culture and very understanding environment. They even have quarterly mental health days. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Worked from home as an Accountant, bosses were understandable. Let me work flexible hours sometimes. Compassionate and caring even down to the core.

Absolutely the most ineffective, clueless management I've ever seen--especially the COO.

A COO who only saw what she wanted to see and drove 85% of the managers to quit or take early retirement. Massive turnover that drove organizational instability. 80-90+ hours a week required of exempt staff. Total lack of support for adequate hiring levels. Utter failure to support hourly staff in significant concerns about safety--with one really that a building worker was murdered by a tenant while in Plymouth's building and on the clock. Lousy pay. Lousy support. Just a miserable place to work, with management expecting staff to just sort of get on board because they are a non profit.

A great company with a great mission

If you care about helping the homeless and drug abusing individuals, you may belong here.As a building assistant, often times you have to interact with the residents and their guests. Its usually the guests that make your job more difficult than it needs to be.Basically, you building assistants are security, janitor, and social service case workers combined into one job. Can be rewarding to help a vulnerable population while also getting burnt out from frequent harassment from drug using residents and guests.

Pros

5% company match 403b plan, holiday bonuses, Pto, holiday hours, health insurance

Cons

drug abusing users

The Work

If you have a passion for helping people Plymouth is the best place that you can find. You have to be strong-willed and thick skinned. The work is rewarding if you are willing to give it your all.

This job never felt like a job! It was fun to work here.

You have lots of autonomy in the job of housing case manager. A great place to work helping individuals be successful in housing, the company invites clients and employees alike to the same functions. Very inclusive. Very diverse employee make up.

Outstanding supervisory supprt and development.

Great place to work. I enjoy the benefits, the culture, and the nature of the work itself. I find inspiration in every day, and I look forward to each day!

Pros

Good benefits, supportive culture, subsidized bus passes

Excellent staff development and creative workplace

I worked in social services and really felt my career blossom here. There are many opportunities for training and professional development, managers are supportive and engaged with staff. Most long time staff are mission-driven and bring a lot of energy and passion to their work. As in all social services, benefits could be more robust, though thanks to the union it is being worked on by the staff and have already seen massive improvement in wages. This is the sort of place where you get out what you put in.

Pros

fast paced, creativity rewarded, community

Cons

secondary trauma

Find another employer. You'll thank me later

Spent most waking hours doing something for the company. Was forced to work in a hostile work environment. Approached management with ongoing issues and concerns and nothing was done about it. Coworkers would bad mouth me to other residents of the building to which the residents themselves would approach me to notify me of what was said. Others would often break rules/disregard rules completely, then turn around and speculate as to the reason why I decided to do something a specific way rather than approach me to ask me why. Would say snide remarks as I would walk by and snicker like we were back in high school and these people were WELL over their 40s and 50s. Others acted like they were in a assistant manager role but not officially an assistant manager as official title was completely different. Certain "rules" would only apply to certain staff members while others were freely flouted their responsibilities on those with less seniority. Management would often play favorites with their "homies that they used to run with and persue other recreational substances with" from "back in the day". Was required to join a union to which the union did nothing for you. The union was more for the company than for the employees. Was often required to go to trainings and/or meetings with little to no sleep since working swing shift.

Pros

Met great residents

Cons

Way too many to list them all, find another employer, trust me on this

a rewarding but underpaid job

You'll work with vulnerable populations who can often lead to stressful situations, but if you're out to do some good in your community this is a fine place to start. Pay needs to be higher for the expectations, but the benefits are good and the opportunities for overtime and advancement are fine.

Workplace is a great for the mentally ill and homeless population.

Providing assistance to a vulnerable population. Monitor security cameras, respond to emergencies, document client interactions along with shift occurrences.

A good place to work for the right people

It's a good company with a good mission. That said, it's not for everyone as you are working with or for the homeless. Not easy and requires lots of patience.

Great Mission, low pay

The mission of PHG is to house chronically homeless people. The mission is excellent, however the pay was very poor. Many of the folks housed has mental/emotional issues which made it a fairly stressful job. You really need to know and understand de-escalation skills in order to work with residents and their issues on a daily basis.

Pros

Fulfilling cause and mission

Cons

Emotionally taxing

A well-established organization doing meaningful work

The organization, staff, and clients are amazing, but being a direct service provider to the formerly houseless population is challenging work. With that said, Plymouth does the right thing the right way, in my opinion; you can't ask for much more than that in this field.
