Recruiting Coordinator (Former Employee) – San Francisco, CA – July 2, 2018
I worked at Pocket Gems for about 2 1/2 years. I learned a lot when I was there, definitely feels like you are drinking from the fire hose. I really struggled with career development there and company politics. Management and leadership claims to be "transparent and flat" and that couldn't be more false.
Overall, great company, but very hard to move up/transfer
Player Experience Specialist (Former Employee) – San Francisco, CA – April 20, 2018
The structure of the company is very flat, which makes it difficult when trying to advance your career.
The culture and people I worked with, however, were fantastic.I made a lot of friends there. There are a lot of groups or clubs that are very inclusive. Catered lunch and an open kitchen make it hard to not be at the office all the time. I felt taken care of most of the time.
Associate Product Manager (Former Employee) – San Francisco, CA – March 29, 2018
Hostile, cut-throat environment that tends not to make everyone feel welcome. That's not to say that no one is happy there - those folks that fit in at Pocket Gems have it pretty good. However, the general atmosphere of stress and coldness is not the most conducive to doing the work that's expected.
Associate Test Lead (Former Employee) – San Francisco, CA – October 10, 2017
This is a great place to start your career, but after that you should either play politics or leave. Sucking up to management and being a "yes man" will get you farther than hard work ever will at PG.
They will constantly hire other people from bigger companies to take leadership positions and don't promote within, so growth is pretty stunted. Burn out rate is pretty high on certain teams, but the company refuses to acknowledge it exists.
IT Specialist (Former Employee) – San Francisco, CA – October 4, 2017
Fun company with a great culture to match. Pocket gems is a first class mobile game company. If you like the tech scene and want to be somewhere with creative likeminded people, PG is the place for you.
OFFICE MANAGER/EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT (Current Employee) – San Francisco, CA – July 8, 2012
As the Office Manager/EA I did everything and anything to keep the office running, whether it was ordering supplies, handling employee requests, welcoming New Hires, or handling travel, if it involved the office I would take care of it.
free lunch and food, open environment.
work/life balance is very poor. long hours are expected.
