EMT-B (Former Employee) –  Modesto, CAOctober 12, 2017
Not a career workplace be careful who you confide in . It is under new management. They're very confused daily on what their operations want to accomplish very stressful for field ambulance crews which are bottom barrel to management.
Pros
Easy to get hired
Cons
They keep people around that should be removed

Great company until money and management changes
Operations (Current Employee) –  Cotati, CAJune 12, 2017
Great company until money and management changes created an environment that makes it hard to want to come to work. Upper management is the main problem with a lack of education surrounding the industry and a goal that doesn't align with what the company was built on.

Wonderful coworkers, terrible company
Emergency Medical Technician (Former Employee) –  Oakland, CAApril 4, 2017
I loved working here, but only because my coworkers were so great. My direct supervisor was amazing as well, but the overall company management was terrible. The different "units" of the company always seemed to be acting in opposition, and seasoned EMTs were treated as though they were replaceable. (the company didn't care that the people they would replace them with were brand new to the field.)

Paramedic (Current Employee) –  San Jose, CANovember 9, 2016
8-12 hour shifts on an ambulance.
Field treatment and bedside manner.
Management is friendly and easily approachable.
Co-workers are very open and friendly.
Hardest part of the job is the long down time between calls sitting in the ambulance.
Helping my community.

Would give less stars if possible
EMT-Basic, Taxi Driver (Current Employee) –  Sacramento, CAJune 26, 2016
This company is attempting to grow too fast for its own good and the growing pains are unbearable. If you notice a lot of the reviewers who gave a higher rating work at the corporate level, and yes they have it better off. The EMT and Medic employees get treated poorly. Management is absolutely incompetent and ineffective. They tell you they don't want you to work there more than a year when you are hired.
Pros
Pay is higher in Sac because the union wage is based on Oakland minimum wage.
Cons
Everything. Dispatch is terrible. Management is incompetent. Its all blamed on you.

Starts out ok
AR (Former Employee) –  Cotati, CAMarch 31, 2016
I came into this company really excited and saw myself there for long term employment however it very quickly becomes obvious that, at least in my department (AR) the management team couldnt care less about you as a person .. you are just another worker bee in the turnstyle of employee turnover.. God help you if you need to be out for any sort of reason because they expect you to basically live there .. very heartless for the most part and extremely condescending when you approach them about anything. Be prepared to get virtually no training then thrown right into the job while being constantly told every little thing is wrong for this "very important position "
.. if it's so important (& it truly is) how about some seriou training before you are expected to just do it.. if it wasn't for my coworkers teaching me things I would have just been swallowed up by this place ... I know for a family that other ambulance billing companies have extensive training so when their employees are sent to the floor to work they are prepared and confident and do accurate work. All this place cares about is your daily numbers...
Clearly quantity over quality which is sad and will come back to hurt them in the long run.
Pros
Free lunch
Cons
Poor managent

Productive fun workplace with pingpong table
EMT-Basic (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAFebruary 9, 2016
A typical day at work always stated with a rig check out to make sure everything is clean and working. Once checked out we could go about our business until a call came in. The number of calls on a given day varied from 0-8 calls. Then the day would be finished with potential station duties and a end of shift rig check out.

I learned a lot about health care systems and how they operate.

Co-workers were great. One of the best parts of the job.

The hardest part of the job was seeing completely debilitated patients with very low to zero quality of life.

The Most enjoyable part of the job was patient contact and the feeling of helping someone in need and trying your best to brighten their day, even just a little.
Pros
freedom to do what you please when not on a call. Within reason.
Cons
on-call throughout probationary period, long hours

Great Company
Dispatcher/Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Sacramento, CANovember 30, 2015
Protransport-1 is a great company to work for, the company is fairly new so it is still growing and possibly does not have the funds for the best benefits package but the compensation is pretty fair. Management is hard on employees to keep the company growing at the rate that it is. Which I find no issues with seeing as business is business. The hardest part of the job is keeping up with constant changing regulations of the job but that is part of any job.

Pto

Good "Stepping Stone" company
Emergency Medical Technician (Current Employee) –  Cotati, CAMarch 22, 2015
It is a good place to get your feet wet and gain some basic experience as an EMT. Protransport-1 is a primarily inter- and intra-facility company. That primarily targets hospitals for contracts.

You start off at 11.50/hr, but once you get off probation you are making over 12. As an EMT you get call bonuses, so the more calls you run the more you make. You can make more as an FTO, rig chief, Business Development EMT, etc.

Much of the downside is an unappreciative management. They never have your back and will often blame you for the problems. They will try to blame you, even if it is their fault. They have lackluster training. They will not teach you county protocols, it is all on you. They look after their bottom line first, then employees second. They have tell you that they are a "stepping stone" company and don't do anything to retain good field crew members. They still use manual gurneys, instead of power assisted gurneys, which causes a lot of wear and tear on your body. Especially, when they have you run 6 - 10 calls a day in some areas.

The union provides no protection for field employees on probation. They are not very helpful and don't communicate with union members.
Pros
Ability to network, call bonus
Cons
Training, Management, Union
