Care for student retention is expressed in words, but not realistically reflected in the support and expectations set forth for the admissions department. It is impossible to retain a student who is looking to survive-may be looking for a job or grant money-but we talk them into going to school because we as admissions advisors are also trying to survive and not become that aggregate lead that we draw from. Advertising is extremely misleading and it could simply be better worded (not advertising free money for people under a certain household income). If that’s the only change that is made, it might boost reality to the image that we project of being part of a world class school system.

Working hours are long, but normal. You have an eight hour work block with a mandated one hour lunch so you’re in the office at least nine hours a day and on weekends. If you work from home, you are expected to work late evenings and weekends, and any times when people in the office aren’t available. Though work from home is a privilege you earn, and it’s supposed to be a type of freedom, management may “suggest” you into a schedule.
