Stressful unpleasant place to work
Correctional Officer (Former Employee) –  Pound, VAJanuary 10, 2018
Offenders are unpleasant to be around when angry but you know what to expect from them. Supervisors are worse than the offenders in a lot of cases. They are back stabbing if you are not in their click of butt kissers.
Pros
Free lunch if you like unidentifiable food that tastes bad, benefits are good though, days off are good
Cons
Most of the supervisors are backstabbing is not in their click

Work for Red Onion was a stressful job. What made it so stressful was the supervisors tell you one thing then when something happens the supervisors won't take the fall for it.

ok place to work. A lot of stress and mental stress. Good benefits and schedule. Learned a lot about security and prison life and how to deal with inmates. The hardest part of the job is the mental stress and anxiety it can put on you. The most enjoyable part is the benefits time off and the people that work there.

Very negative place to work due to the nature of SuperMax prisons but learned a lot about culture and patience with this job.
Corrections Officer II (Former Employee) –  Pound, VASeptember 26, 2016
A very stressful environment with great co-workers but it's a SuperMax prison, so it was very hard on the emotions. Overall a very good learning experience in life and how Law Enforcement/Corrections Officers have such a hard job to carry out. Management was always changing due to a high turn over rate but I learned so much about myself and my limits here. It's very difficult to have such negativity around you all the time but you learn tolerance and who you really are deep inside in a place like this.
Pros
Time off, good co-workers, very teamwork orientated, good retirement and benefits.
Cons
Negativity all around, violence on a daily basis, very strict rules and regulations and low pay.

It's a prison.

Working at a prison so the culture isn't much. Great amount of time off which you need to just let the work go. Time off is GREAT!!!! Pay is not very good especially considering what you do!
