Correctional Officer (Former Employee) – Pound, VA – January 10, 2018
Offenders are unpleasant to be around when angry but you know what to expect from them. Supervisors are worse than the offenders in a lot of cases. They are back stabbing if you are not in their click of butt kissers.
Free lunch if you like unidentifiable food that tastes bad, benefits are good though, days off are good
Most of the supervisors are backstabbing is not in their click
Correctional Officer (Former Employee) – Pound, VA – April 3, 2017
ok place to work. A lot of stress and mental stress. Good benefits and schedule. Learned a lot about security and prison life and how to deal with inmates. The hardest part of the job is the mental stress and anxiety it can put on you. The most enjoyable part is the benefits time off and the people that work there.
Corrections Officer (Former Employee) – Pound, VA – January 9, 2017
I enjoyed working at Red Onion State Prison. The people made the job. I was treated fairly and with respect. The training was done properly and very helpful. The academy was hard , but i learned alot from it.
Very negative place to work due to the nature of SuperMax prisons but learned a lot about culture and patience with this job.
Corrections Officer II (Former Employee) – Pound, VA – September 26, 2016
A very stressful environment with great co-workers but it's a SuperMax prison, so it was very hard on the emotions. Overall a very good learning experience in life and how Law Enforcement/Corrections Officers have such a hard job to carry out. Management was always changing due to a high turn over rate but I learned so much about myself and my limits here. It's very difficult to have such negativity around you all the time but you learn tolerance and who you really are deep inside in a place like this.
Time off, good co-workers, very teamwork orientated, good retirement and benefits.
Negativity all around, violence on a daily basis, very strict rules and regulations and low pay.
Corrections Officer/Inmate Supervisor (Former Employee) – Pound, VA – April 20, 2016
Good place to work Tight community of correctional officers work there. They watch each others back in a time of need. you may do one cell entry a day or ten. its a totally different world working in a level six maximum prison.
