Alot of throwing people under the bus when things don't go well

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Laid-back environment, lots of work you can throw yourself into. Alot of talk about moving out west, with little compensation for the cost of living.

Pros

Free snacks

Cons

Untrustworthy upper management

Great company vision statement.

Management and people partners degrade employees (especially women, and people with disabilities) the expectation is to work off hours and in 10, and 12 hour blocks. If you so much as need to go to the bank you will be charged pto time.(10 to 12 hours 6 or 7 days a week) When reporting management for forced unsafe practices the employee suffers conciquences from direct manager and people partner. When injured from this the employee is forced to use their own pto time to seek medical attention. Management is something from a time long ago working in a coal mine and do not care if you live or die. Management will reprimand you for everything they can to cause low morale, and offer no answers to what corrective actions they expect. Management will even tell you while experiencing a medical issue that you appear to have a desiese. I believe this is a good company but it has grown so big so fast there is no check and balance in place. And this may not be the culture across the company. But it certainly is in my department.

Pros

Clean and well lit

Cons

Please see writing.

Progressive, positive enviroment

I was contract But...

I was contract and when i got in there i could tell is was going to be temporary there where way too many heads. The lucky ones who got hired had a good jobs and good benefits ahead of them. I was in R&D. it was changing daily in the way of testing and job description but it was expected. Fun and laid back place to work. Goal Driven.

Pros

Good benefits.

Cons

i was contract

Smoke and mirrors

Everything told during onboarding and new hire training is a complete sham. The start times are not what was said. Days you work are different then said. Hours change daily. They don’t care about your home life or mental health. The policies change everyday with no notice.

Pros

Decent pay

Cons

Stress, work environment, management, constant lies

Poor Management, cut throat, and non-experienced leaders

The Management staff at Rivian is very poor and lead by bullying and belittling. They place non-experienced people in leadership positions who have never managed before leading a build of a vehicle and do nothing to help their issues. They do not post internal positions and continue to bring in their friends for high level positions. Room for advancement is non-existent and the HR department is also very entry-level with no action on issues that need addressed. Nothing can be done in fear of retaliation. There is no work life balance, and management makes decisions that are rash and based on emotion, while hindering the processes in place and do not communicate changes. They lead by chaos. Sadly this company is outsourcing all of their work to China and other countries, and vendors are treated very poorly with unfair business practices. This entire review is agreed upon by over 25 or more local employees and many more in Illinois, but they continue to manage and get away with these actions. I do not recommend this company as they keep telling the team to stay for the stocks as they could do as well as Tesla and will be rich.

Pros

Potentially good vehicle

Cons

Too many to name

Hard Work but very Collaborative

Pre Covid, the Rivian Office life and social culture is amazing. Open and collaborative, inviting and exciting. During Covid, a bit harder on the social aspect, but still very collaborative teams. Thankful for Zoom. Everyone is appreciative of others' time and values it. Procedures and processes are growing daily due the Rivian work style and collaborative culture. This position is a bit challenging due to the processes still being developed. Time is of the essence, but some items out of our control makes it difficult to be efficient and achieve goals. But it is a start up and will be successful moving forward. All in all, a great place to work and learn from others.

Pros

Pay and benefits are good and reasonable.

Cons

Expect to extensively multi-task, Work long hours to achieve goals required in a short period of time.

Amazing set up in USA, study and design team in same space. Some very radical approaches to design content, shaping the further of vehicle interiors.

Amazing set up in USA, study and design team in same space. Some very radical approaches to design content, shaping the further of vehicle interiors. Very young team, I was mentoring several USA / Indian members of team. Had to quit the projects due to no USA visa issue.

Avoid if at all possible.

Great facade on the outside and in the media. However, when you see the internal day to day operations you are better off avoiding it altogether. It has turned into the good old boys club. No free-thinking allowed. To survive you better be a yes man. Styling trumps engineering all the time here. They have unrealistic goals and will struggle to produce a real truck or SUV. Better to stay where you are at.

Liked most of the group very much

This company would like to be viewed as open minded and similar to a west coast tech corporation. It is a mix of very talented people and those that may become talented in the future.

Pros

Free dinners for those that need to work into the night

Cons

Positions occupied by people that never had experience doing the job.

Quick to hire and quick to layoff

Ramped up hiring to design vehicle, then laid off many when done with that project. Many good designers let go. On a positive side Excellent people to work with. Managers and Engineers always willing to help. Good quality work while it lasted.

Pros

Friendly work culture

Cons

Quick to hire and quick to layoff.

fun place to put in lots of hours

A good team to work with that is jointly focused on building a vehicle. It is a great place to work if you are good at what you do and aren't looking for quick promotions.
