Takes about 3 months maybe for EMS. Once a quarter interviews are done. End of July or so is orientation and around December. Not sure when winter/spring orientation is held. Your resume goes to HR in the hospital. Then HR has to send your resume to EMS side ( thatbprobably takes the longest.) Then EMS head staff goes through the resumes. It’s hard to get in. Maybe knowing someone or being a good interviewer. You are tested on your skills like when you were in the EMT academy. Medical/trauma assessments. If you don’t know what to do in a scenario that’s okay. Be honest then just guessing on what to do. That shows bad character on your part. Within a week you will get an email with Hire information. From that point usually a month until orientation. Takes time to do physical/blood testing, TB shot and get uniforms. Training process once on the road is very informative and can be intense if your 911 experience isn’t strong. You learn a lot during the training and you will be successful. It’s a good job to have and learn so much in an Urban environment. Sometimes your really busy but it’s not that bad. During a shift I’d say you have maybe 4-8 jobs your shift before switching. Maybe 10-16 calls a day. Remember it’s short distance to the hospital so it’s not so terrible. Just do your job be professional and respect your coworkers/patients and all will be fine. Also, Barnabas Health has a contract with Prudential so you can cover any event that is held there. Don’t forget details in jersey city that are held a lot throughout the year. So plenty ways/shifts to work to break up the constant street life shifts.
