Good company culture and very flexible work conditions
Financial Data Research Analyst (Former Employee) –  Centennial, CONovember 7, 2013
Good company culture and very flexible work conditions

A typical work day is open a company SEC documents (10k) and rewrite the the financial statements using S&P propitiatory process, when finished go to next company.
Learned more about the documents and how they are connected and how to find adjustment in in notes and MDA.
The hardest part of the job was the volume of trying to get almost 10,000 companies out every quarter.
The most enjoyable part of the job was that I learned something new every day, every company is different and finding all the little secrets.
Pros
Great benefits package
Cons
Lots of overtime

Good first job - too much mismanagement
Private Equity Research Associate (Current Employee) –  New York, NYOctober 19, 2013
This was a good place for a first job. I learned how to use the system and what factors go into building a database. The other people were generally good, though some took their roles too seriously. Management seemed to have its heart in the right place but inefficiently dealt with talent, and anyone with any real talent used the company as a springboard to something else. Too much inefficiency here across such a large company that has struggled since its integration with S&P.

Going through a great deal of change right now

McGraw Hill Financial has a great deal of cache with well-known brands, amazingly talented people and a strong leadership team. The downtown office is in a great location (particularly during the summer!) and the company provides many lunch and learn sessions led by both internal and external leaders in their fields.

Pay isn't outstanding to be a Wall Street business, and they are very stingy with vacation time. But they are flexible with work from home arrangements in some departments.

It's a tough work environment because there is so much change taking place at the company these days, but overall a decent place to work.
Pros
flexible work schedule, lots of potential for future success
Cons
too much change and inconsistency, even for today's world; old-school vacation policy
