Its good if you love teaching
Paraprofessional (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAJuly 3, 2019
Only take a job here if you love what you do. People are great, but it's public schools so pay is not great. Not enough to survive in San Francisco but the benefits are pretty good. You will have to work hard to be noticed and heard, but once you get there it works out well. Don't expect to be able to own a home or raise your own family with this job though.

Overall, a pretty good place to work.
Instructional Aide (Current Employee) –  Balboa HighJuly 2, 2019
A good place to work. People who work thre seem pretty happy. Lunches though pretty cheap, could be even less expensive. A typical day at work is demanding, yet the atmosphere is pretty good.
Pros
Cheap lunch, good supervisors. mostly reasonable students.
Cons
Pay could be higher.

You learned alot at Special Education; from Master Contracts, supporting Directors/Supervisors, accounting and data entry It was a fast paced environment, you constantly had to multi task. Most enjoyable part of the job was training other clerical staff. Hardest part was to see parent frustrated seeking services for their children.

I've grown and enjoyed my time there. It's a fun city to live and work in, and has some great staff. Especially the paraprofessionals. I would recommend it to prospective teachers.

SENIOR ACCOUNT CLERK (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CANovember 12, 2018
I had a very short work experience with the SFUSD. The training I got was so limited that I was bouncing from one person to another every single day. There was no structure with the training and I found out that this was the most challenging part of the job.

Experience really depends on site, department and management
School leader (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CANovember 9, 2018
The SFUSD experience really varies by department or school. As a whole, there are great, smart people working here and aspects of any job that are joyful and fulfilling. But management turn over and lack of accountability makes for very weak feedback and advancement structures.
Pros
Fulfilling, mission driven, great people
Cons
Fear-based culture, politics, management turnover

Summary
elementary school teacher (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CASeptember 19, 2018
It's a fast paced environment that can be positive because of the work with children, children are great. Too much bureaucratic work. Too much stress from administrator. Curriculum is set and not much is left for creativity. You need to move fast through the curriculum and is everything is geared to high test scores.
Pros
Great workshops, great health care package
Cons
Stressful job on many levels
