Principal Systems Engineer (Former Employee) –  Syracuse, NYDecember 14, 2018
Cut through "matrix ed" environment with middle management that is clueless to what their reports do... Micromanaged by "mother ship" in Sweden - not a very inspiring environment for those with an ounce of creativity.

A good place to work and learn
IT (Former Employee) –  Syracuse, NYNovember 15, 2018
Many functions in IT are distributed among team members and the opportunities to learn new skills and technologies are always available. A real team environment with good management (in IT at least).
Pros
Great benefits, good pay
Cons
Defense contractor, so there are a lots of ups and downs based on winning contracts.

Petroleum Spencer Market Sales Clerk (Former Employee) –  Pasadena, TXJune 5, 2018
You have the wrong company here. Nothing to do with the car company. This is SAAB Petroleum, a store company out of Southeast Texas. I was just a store clerk there. It's a convenience store where you get gasoline, both food & drink mostly bad for your health, alcohol, as well as tobacco products. I worked standing most of the day trying to do my job. Handled money, assisted customers, stocked, cleaned, and so on.
Pros
It was a job
Cons
Minimum wage, no raise, no holiday pay, no vacation, and no benefits.

Saab was a good place to work. There was a downsize which cause some of the employees to be a lay off. The company is working at a smaller capacity at this time.

Very odd
Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  Syracuse, NYMarch 28, 2018
It seems that many developers there do not actually hold a degree related to CS or SE, and instead learned java programming after. This made development very frustrating, as most solutions to problems were hacks that usually caused other bugs down the road. No code quality checks or solid documentation made debugging very, very annoying.
Pros
Good benefits and solid pay, cafeteria in the building
Cons
actual work very depressing and mundane, legacy software upkeep

Should be considered a job for when you are desperate, but it could be much worse.
Petroleum Sales Clerk (Former Employee) –  Pasadena, TXJanuary 30, 2018
This company, while it offers a job, it's not a decent job, if you care to advance into other fields, and mostly just gives you experience with customer service, minor bookkeeping & clerical work, cleaning, money handling, some food & drink service, and only the barest of technical work. Their facilities are fairly clean, but equipment is either worn out or past its due. Machines required to work the register, and make transactions are somewhat faulty, and the pumps themselves can be very faulty at times. The carwash, vacuums, and air pump are old, worn out, and suffer from public abuse.
As a company, it's run as cheaply as possible to garner profit, often neglecting things that need repair, and as the company has its employees sign agreement contracts stating no holiday pay, no paid vacations, no paid sick days, etcetera... and the fact that almost no employees get raises, and even store managers only get paid a couple dollars more than the low staff, they save money.
I don't suggest working for them, unless you're desperate for work. They don't tend to hire decent workers on average, many of whom are either corrupt, immature, or otherwise unreliable, and with the stresses, including dealing with disgruntled or angry customers, drama, and the low pay without actual benefits, the turn over rate is relatively high.
The store management itself isn't too bad, and they often try hard at their jobs, but the company management/ owners have various issues that are suspect, but as a lowly worker there you may find yourself rather ignorant and relying on rumors of things to come
  more... often.
It does run itself a bit laid back at times, and management isn't always looking over your shoulder, except for the store cameras, which are needed.
The stores often are either understaffed or skeleton crewed, as well.
Note: this is from my perspective, and while much of it is obviously valid, I don't have all the information needed to place a full report upon the company as a whole, so I may be somewhat biased, ignorant, & or have misunderstood certain things, which I apologize for.
Thank You for the survey.

Day and the life
Contracted Truck Driver (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXJanuary 5, 2018
Not a bad gig if you are under the right contract. This is easy money, you pick up mail from the main post office in Austin. load your truck and be off the dock by assigned time. Deliver to assigned cities by the time agreed upon when contract details were set(morning/evening runs), and on the return trip pick up from each city and return mail back to the Austin plant. Hardest part of the job are the morning hours, each route varies but you can be leaving the dock anywhere from 12am-5am everyday(6 day work week off days vary depending on staff). The best part its split shift so even though you have to wake up early you're done with your morning before most people even get up and most routes can start back anywhere from 3pm-5pm so you have nice little break in between runs.
Pros
slipt shift, assigned trucks, learn different parts of the state
Cons
once a month pay.

Employee (Current Employee) –  East Syracuse, NYDecember 1, 2016
SAAB Defense and Security (SDAS) has been growing for over Three years now and compared to three years ago this company has made some big strides. Great Benefits, Good Pay, Flexible work schedule and much more. SDAS offers plenty of opportunities to improve your education not only by allowing you to attend college while you work but also allow you to flex your work schedule around your school life, in addition to allowing you to adjust your schedule around your family needs. Working at SDAS from almost the beginning, has really shown me what people with influences from surrounding companies can accomplish, I am proud to say that I work for SAAB Defense and Security! You will to if you get the opportunity to work for this great company.
Pros
Free Education, Flexible Hours, Family Friendly, Good Compensation, Welcoming Atmoshere

Employee (Former Employee) –  East Syracuse, NYJanuary 20, 2016
Reptiles and scorpions. More like a family than an LLC. Accolades and adulation for a few and the red headed stepchild treatment for others. Most of the interesting technical work is done in Sweden. East Syracuse is just a shipping address for SAAB. There is a lot of time off especially for those working at home. Great pay and good benefits. Nice place to visit, would not want to work at SDAS again.
Pros
Work at home. A lot of time off.
