Amazing health benefits and environment
Member Service Representative II (Current Employee) - Riverside, CA - October 12, 2022
Featured review
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union selected this as a representative reviewI love working here because the fellow team members are all super friendly. The Members as well are amazing to see everyday. They provide free benefits, fully covered for part time and full time employees. The only con is they definitely play favorites and if you don’t have someone you know currently working there, it is extremely hard to get the job or even promote.

Horrible Management
Insurance protection Rep (Former Employee) - Orange County, CA - September 4, 2023
Stay clear of the insurance department. The Management retaliates against you and only rewards those who brown nose, if you're a hard worker and take pride in actually working this is not the place for you. This could be a great job at a great company but till they do a complete over hall of management that will never be the case.
Pros
Insurance beneifits
Cons
Management

Great culture and CEO, fantastic benefits and wonderful reputation!
Manager (Former Employee) - Santa Ana, CA - July 28, 2023
Overall, an excellent place to work. They struggle when it comes to management development, promotion and movement, as the competition for roles becomes more intense. Development below management is commendable and lots of opportunities to learn! Member service is their #1 priority and as long as your focus is on that, it's pretty great.
Pros
benefits
Cons
expectations are very high and can be intense

Overworked and underpaid
Service Delivery Representative (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - May 18, 2023
Pay is not equivalent to the stress and work load. Yearly raises are only around 10cents. It’s very discouraging when new hires come in making more than you. Only good thing are the insurance benefits.

Great place to work
Desktop Support (Former Employee) - Tustin, CA - April 11, 2023
Great benefits. Great people. Understand with work/life balance. Accommodating and great feeling of doing something that makes a difference. A little heavy on management, but you have a lot of people that stay a long time with the organization

Amazing Culture
Branch Supervisor (Former Employee) - Anonymous - March 27, 2023
Best place to work and wonderful benefits…There is a team environment of collaboration and it is very inclusive... I would go back in a heartbeat. The company ties everything back to the values and it is all about the people.

MSR/Teller (Former Employee) - Santa Ana, CA - March 19, 2023
Very healthy environment and the benefits are the main reason that employees feel comfort and like working here. Support and positivity from management

Good Company
Consumer Loan Underwriter (Former Employee) - Tustin, CA - March 6, 2023
Great benefits, good management team and fair work/life balance. They expect you to work overtime and if you can't, you'll get the stink eye and passed over for promotions.

Arrogant culture
Director (Former Employee) - Orange County - December 14, 2022
Company succumbed to their own success and became arrogant and had a superiority complex. Lost site of what was important once long time CEO left. Service levels have dropped significantly as a result.

Save your time apply somewhere else!
Hit or miss with managers! (Former Employee) - Inglewood, CA - October 24, 2022
Managers are passive aggressive. CEO IS AMAZING! No one knows the answers to questions. No manual to look up information. When you make a simple mistake they will be on you but have no clue how to fix the mistake. I’d avoid this place.

Only good if you’re a favorite
Service Delivery Representative (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - September 13, 2022
If you want to move up in the company you’ll have to do some serious kissing up to move up if not plan to be in the same position the entire time you work there, only good thing about them was the PTO and the Benefits get your experience in there and get out as fast as you can

Great place to work with occasional favoritism
Member Representative II (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - August 27, 2022
Working for SchoolsFirst federal credit union is a great place to learn, a lot training, training is wonderful, you have great people that are willing to help you and see you grow. There are some favoritism because there are a lot of coworkers that have been working together for many many years but health insurance is great. The CEO and all the higher-ups really do care about their employees some of them even remember you by name which is amazing. I remember the first day of orientation I met our CEO who was Bill Cheney at the time and even after that first time that I met him I would see him probably once every 2 to 3 months in our meetings and professional get together‘s as well as other higher-ups it really makes you feel like part of them. The Members are actually very nice for the most part, you are working with school employees and educators and their family members so it really does have an impact on the type of clientele that you’re working with. The only reason I left was because I moved out of state and I wasn’t able to work remotely for SchoolsFirst credit union but if it wasn’t for that I would still be working for them.
Pros
Health care is phenomenal, pay is awesome, training is wonderful, Members are great, clear sense of purpose, and CEO actually cares about his employees. Holidays are paid and you’re off!
Cons
Favoritism by management, takes a bit to be promoted, unless you know someone.

Great environment and plenty of stability.
Loan Processor (Former Employee) - Tustin, CA - August 1, 2022
Fellow employees are kind and helpful. My asst manager and manager frequently checked up on me to see if they could help with anything but also just to get to know me on a personal level which I appreciated. I worked in the newly constructed Tustin office which has a fantastic cafeteria that is very reasonably priced and has plenty of options so you can skip pricy coffee and long drives to get lunch. For better or for worse, SchoolsFirst is pretty old school. On one hand, that means change is slow and it will definitely feel like an office from the 90s. On the other hand, that means there is a lot of stability since they actually want people to work there for their entire careers. People do get promoted or take jobs in other departments but it can be hard to move up unless you're very proactive about it. Overall, if you want a stable career, want a positive team environment, and don't mind slow career growth this is a perfect company to do it in. If you like to move fast and want to really make an impact at work this may not be the best place for you.

Great benefits many opportunities to advance within but there are definitely a lot of politics. Lots of freebies for employees. A lot of fake people but definitely many great individuals

Most everyone lives up to their value statement
Member Service Representative II (Former Employee) - Murrieta, CA - July 17, 2022
This company by far lives up to their mission/value statement. I can honestly say everybody who works there and there’s a breaths what SchoolsFirst Is about. It is a big family who generally cares about their employees. However, the pay is not competitive and the job posting are misleading to the position you apply for. As long as you’re a team player and respect people to be perfectly fine here.

If it weren't for my team...
Member Service Representative I (Former Employee) - Elk Grove, CA - July 10, 2022
If it weren't for the people I worked with, I wouldn't have stayed for as long as I did. The members sometimes made me want to tear my hair out, but my team supported one another, and it got me through a lot.

Do more with less.
Fraud Investigator (Former Employee) - Tustin, CA - April 19, 2022
Favoritism. Political. No room for growth. Corporate company with small business budget. Only mgmt receive bonus and perks to work from home, employees are not valued.

No room for growth.
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Riverside, CA - February 7, 2022
At first it feels like an amazing company to work for, but as time goes by nothing changes you’re in the same position and with more responsibilities. Pay is not the greatest. Sounds like all management are trained to say we are working on it. Nothing really changes. I feel if they would take the time to work closer with the employees and helping them grow they’d have a better turn over rate.
Pros
Fee lunches and great benefits
Cons
No room for growth

Great benefits but unprofessional branch managers
Member Service Representative IV (Former Employee) - Downey, CA - December 16, 2021
Working for SchoolsFirst, you will immediately see the sense of Member service this company instills in its employees from day one. The company provides a fantastic benefits package and promotes from within, so there is room for growth. However, getting promoted differs from branch to branch, making the process unclear. It is a hit or miss with branch managers. Some branch managers are excellent, and the branches with those managers know it. Other branch managers are toxic and unfit to lead, creating a toxic work environment for employees below them. The pay raises are subjective and based on management opinion only and amount to a few cents a year, which is laughable given that this company consistently promotes caring for its employees. You will receive paid holidays and paid vacations. As a Member Service Representative, do not expect any bonuses, although supervisors and above do receive them, which the company never mentions. Also, due to the company being smaller than most big banks, news travels fast so it is not uncommon to hear rumors. The best part of working here is the benefits, work-life balance if you’re not in management and the annual picnics/activities hosted for company employees and their families.
Pros
Free lunches, good work-life balance, paid holidays and vacation
Cons
Small raises, toxic managers, uneven workload

Good place to work
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) - Tustin, CA - November 22, 2021
Good place to work, good people and culture in the branches. need to update themselves in the times more and not be so conservative to technology and system upgrades.
