Typical healthcare corporation

Typical company regarding productivity. Management helpful and engaged. Distressing that outcomes on paper mattered more than realistic improvements as with most companies.

Productive, great management, and most of all teamwork

I couldn't be happier working for a well managed workplace. I have worked at a different hospital for 15 years. After coming to Select I never seen such team work. No matter the situation everyone helps everyone. The managers are so personable. No problem is to big or small that you can't feel comfortable about going to one of them and discussing. They always handle the situation in a timely manner. Of course you will have stressful days but you will always have a good team standing behind you. I highly recommend working for Morgantown Select Specialty Hospital.

Pros

Great management

Cons

Employment

Select is wonderful place to work for. The management is very caring about the employees. Our staff works great together to make sure our patients receive the care they all deserve. Our CEO/CNO is very hands on with employees and patients. HR is always helpful and kind. Select has great opportunity to grow with in the company. It is a positive environment with great out comes!

Unrealistic staff/patient ratios

At Select be prepared for having several ICU level patients that have run out of inpatient hospital days as well as patients that really do not qualify being there that can’t be placed successfully by another floor’s case management staff. Management doesn’t care if you put your license on the line if unsafe ratios exist. They will simply tell you that they will report you to the state of you attempt to leave, even when several RNs are still there. Most times you will not have a nursing assistant and will be doing total care on all of your obtunded patients. You are also required to strip rooms, pull trash, pull laundry because they won’t hire or contract adequate staff to keep the place clean. You are also lab. You are also transport. You will be required to take all patients down for testing even if no one else gets their meds. The bottom line is, you will be overworked and underpaid in no time flat!

Pros

Clocking out

Cons

Clocking in

would not recommend

Run! High management turnover, employee favoritism, high stress, low pay, one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing! Corporate tells employees one thing while management tells them another. Very high stress and turnover. 12 hour shifts will leave you emotionally drained with nothing left to give your family, friends, and loved ones when you do leave work. This place will suck the soul out of you and ask for more! Run!

Would not recommend working here.

OSU physicians for the most part are wonderful to work with at Select. Select staff are underpaid, under staffed, and not appreciated by management including corporate. Non-medical staff making unsafe medical decisions.

Great place to work

Great place to work coworkers really do become like family. Only downfall is when the census is low you get canceled often so full time isn’t really full time

Alright

Pay is good, staffing is terrible and so is the management team. Poor scheduling and quick turnaround and burnout. Pay is the only thing that makes it worthwhile

Great place to grow with strong management

It’s my first time working in healthcare. Had I not found Select Specialty, I don’t think I’d enjoy this space as much. The CNO’s vision during my interview helped me make a critical decision. Along with the CEO’s support I now feel I’ve found my long term career. There’s never a dull moment and there’s always a more-than-qualified team member, usually a charge nurse, to help me get through the unknowns as I learn. The workplace culture, even during a difficult day, makes you ready and even eager to come back the next day.

Pros

Strong management team, opportunities to grow, flexible schedule

Cons

Long hours

Nurse intern program

I was a new graduate in the Nurse intern program and I feel like my preceptors provided me with the skills and knowledge to take care the the type of patients that we have a select. There are also someone available to ask questions if you need to ask questions. Fully recommend the nurse intern program. 10/10.

Lots of good people, but workload is impossible.

You can make good money here; they offer lots of bonuses. However, if you are a CNA you are expected to do physical therapy’s job on top of your own. It’s hard to find help sometimes because everyone is so busy. You will end up feeling overwhelmed quickly and if you truly care about your patients, you’ll probably dislike it because your workload makes it darn near impossible to give everyone the high-quality care you would like to give them. Equipment is definitely older and management finds all kinds of ways to cut costs even if it means negative outcomes for the patients. It’s a great place to gain experience though. And there are some really sweet people.

Productive and the best paying.

I have to say they are one of the best paying hospitals compare to others in the area. It is just one floor but they really strive to center the care towards the patient.

Productive work environment

Love working here. Fast paced, but not to the point where I feel overwhelmed or overworked. They staff appropriately to give the nurses a fair assignment.

Great place to learn and perfect for a new nurse to get into critical care nurse and critical thinking

I’ll never forget how I had the opportunity to learn and grow there, I left to move to a warmer climate and was saddened to here about them closing…will never forget my experiences there

Good ratios and workload

Ratios and workload great. It's a nice break from a traditional hospital while still getting to perform high level nursing skills. ICU-level training provided. But the benefits are trash and the chance for advancement is limited, and the pay simply can't compete with most hospitals. While they give raises, the educational benefits are unusable, the tuition replayment plan is unusable, and you're losing a LOT of money in benefits working here. Also, they are tired of staff defecting so they are refusing to allow prn, only full time.

Political

Environment is full of nepotism because so many family members work together. You see so much unfairness. You have turn a blind eye to some of it to keep your cool.

Decent, not bad, not good, but decent.

What is the best part of working at the company? The pay is the best and high. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Patient load. The health and prescription Insurance is horrible. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Busy, hectic, high level stress. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Cover one whole floor to a floor and half of seriously ill patients. Every patient and flor is an ICU critical ill patient. Nights are better than days. Days you have to cover everything while the float is usually clapping their gum in the managers off. Try to get you pt rounds done so you can do doctors rounds. Somedays you have 2 doctors rounds to attend and have to triage your pt care.
