A rewarding job
I feel the goal at Select is focused on getting our patients a well as possible. We have different disciplines who play huge roles in doing so. For the most part, everyone works together for the betterment of the patients and families. Of course, you will have a few slackers just like anywhere else. The work is hard but pay is decent as well as benefits. My only concern is the handful of employees who get away with potty mouths/rude attitudes and still have a job. A couple of supervisors are lacking people skills and are with bad attitudes. The others go above and beyond. The doctors are excellent!!
Pros
Majority of employees truly care about their job. 12 hour shifts
Cons
Short staffed often. Ridiculous point system for attendence, missed punches, staff is asked to do more and more but with the same staff and hours.

12hr shifts = longer on your feet
Patients are the sickest of the sick. Multiple acute on chronic disease processes - we bring them back from the brink of death and nurse them back to health. It takes a lot of time, a big team and hard hard work.
Continually running from one task/med/beep/....from one patient to the next. Hard to find the time in between to get your mandatory documentation done properly if you want to do a stellar job for your patients and your team. Time management has to be better than perfect.

CNA's are great but are not allowed to do anything except bathe and turn the patients....and they can't do it themselves because the patient's are too heavy and too sick with tubes everywhere. Whole hospital is like an ICU - Vents and trachs and Pegs and drips.....

Charting is more than anywhere I have ever worked before. Job is the hardest and most demanding physically and mentally - but also very rewarding type of care - but you need to love being a nurse!

EPIC charting -but the setup is different, and dbl charting everywhere.

Management is trying hard to make it cohesive and a great place to work. From the Charge Nurses to the Supervisors to CNO and CEO they are all working hard for us as employees - it shows. They do care!

Pay and benefits are great - but you work HARD for them.

Initial Education program is like nursing school all over again - very big on learning and education - you will need it.
