Working for the nation was a good thing at times but at other times it was tuff. But at times their was no supervisor around to be apart of the team and people I worked with was pretty mean and disrespectful to me and others in the work place.
Pros
Got to work at own pace and do my job with no problems.
Cons
No supervision on the job or a boss to make sure everyone was working.

Prevention Specialist (Former Employee) –  Salamanca, NYDecember 4, 2018
Co-workers can be decent at times, jobs are easy and rewarding if you have the heart and desire to do your jobs, hours are good and benefits are great. There is virtually no management and where some exists its very ineffective. Advancement is more often depending on who you are verses what you can do.Hard work is typically ignored and mistakes are highlighted to the point that dis pear exists for the person being evaluated. At the end of the day you are left with financial benefits but this is offset by the lack of security.

If your not liked - you will be out the door especially during elections. The higher ups including HR don’t know how to do their jobs right. Some positions in departments barely get a break. The pay is lousy for some departments with the amount of demand that is on a person.
Pros
Benefits only if full time.
Cons
Short breaks, drama

Very unprofessional human resources department. The director is a puppet for the president and the council. If you are not like you are not given a job.

Finance (Former Employee) –  Salamanca, NYAugust 11, 2015
To be a productive manager I learned early, open communication and be the role model you are asking of the staff you supervise. Good work ethics, visible to management and make decisions to the best of your ability. management sometime requires the hard decision in regard to personnel, this is where good listening skills are tested and to research the facts. The most enjoyable are the staff meetings and functions that bring them altogether to acknowledge their accomplishments working as a team.
Pros
early release when feasible pre holiday
Cons
short notice of early release impacts the public and someone has to stay back to take care of them

Working for the Seneca Nation of Indians is very stressful. They put people into position who are not qualified for the position. when it comes to elections if you don't know the right people you are out of the job.

Court Clerk (Former Employee) –  Irving, NYDecember 22, 2014
Handled day to day operations, answered phones, assisted the Judge as well as the Paralegal in research. Prepared and served notices to appear, court summons, and any other pertinent documents that need to be completed in a timely matter. Also handled initial intakes or petitions, processed petition and delivered to the correct personel. Maintained the court calendar, scheduled meetings as well as keeping track of important deadlines to ensure that each case was being handled in an efficient and effective manner. Some days were more hectic than others as we would also issue TRO's and handle land disputes on the territory, as well family disputes over property, as well as monies derived from Estates. I was also responsible for end of the day reports and closing.
Pros
Exceptional benefits
Cons
Stressful as I live in a small commmunity, was unable to go to the grocery store at times due to always being asked in the public about case[s]

Dealing cards and interacting with customers was very fun. Learned how to deal with a lot of different types of people. Some very upset from the negative aspects of gambling and others not in the right state of mind due to drinking but the overall interaction with the customers was great. The hardest part about the job was the customers smoking.
