Great pay but poor management
TEAM MEMBER (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 15, 2018
The job itself is'nt hard, and the co workers are great so its a lot of fun times but the management is really terrible! The shift managers are amazing, its the higher up managers that suck. They have no compassion what so ever! they dont care about their employees. You can be dying in front of their eyes and will still not care!.Also you have so time for yourself. You have no time to enjoy your life! But this is just my experience from the specific location i worked at(theater district). I doubt the other locations are the same.Besides the management team , the pay is great (its weekly) and the co workers are cool.
Pros
discount, easy work, weekly pay
Cons
management, no time outside of work

Cool place to work and cool people to work with
TEAM MEMBER (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCJuly 9, 2018
Shake Shack is an amazing company that cares deeply about its employees and their success. The work is very fast paced but easy if you like working and communicating with a team of hard workers. That being said, who you work with can make or break your shake shack experience but from what i've seen, they typically hire pretty good workers and pretty good people in general.
Pros
60% discount, fun atmosphere, decent pay, flexible with schedules
Cons
Flaky managment, inconsistency

MANAGER (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAJuly 8, 2018
In California you work as a non-exempt manager, so you're paid hourly, which is great because you can earn overtime. It's rapidly expanding which gives you opportunity for advancement but has also caused for high turnover and lots of policy change. If you have a great work ethic and sense of teamwork, you will be successful.

Food Service Worker (Former Employee) –  Westport, CTJune 28, 2018
The staff is great, management is great, but guests are inconsiderate when it comes to keeping a clean space, but that's excluding kids. Teens are annoying and noisy, cleaning the bathroom is less than enjoyable, but you will always leave at a reasonable time. The kitchen can get hot if you're working the grill all day, so please drink water or you will pass out due to the heat. Don't push yourself too hard, take a breather when you can but also know when you're needed on the grill. Communicate and swap with your coworkers for a few moments if you truly need a breather

shake shack is an awesome company but team memebrs have too much authority . When coming in , it was great and then a new gm took over and was very unproffesional . Always cursing and having not appropriate conversations with team members , very much violated everything shake shack stands for

Ran by a bunch of liberal snowflakes
Manager (Former Employee) –  Troy, MIJune 27, 2018
Working at the Detroit location was awesome. Strong leadership. But working at the Troy location was my worst experience in the business. GM is lazy and let’s the team get away with murder. No leadership whatsoever. Discipline is definitely frowned upon. Culture is definitely liberal and even have a video on the employee site with an Area Director burning a newspaper with our president and American flag on it. SAD.

Cook/Waitress (Former Employee) –  Manhattan, NYJune 22, 2018
In order to be able to be heard you have to speak up because the managers will through you on a station train you and leave you there forever. Because it’s packed and they don’t have time to check on everyone unless you insist that you are ready for a new station.
Pros
60% off lunch.
Cons
30 min breaks

A typical day at Shake Shack entails you working 8 to 10 long hours with only 30-minute breaks, sometimes until 1 AM. It was a good learning experience, but I wouldn't recommend it for teens.

Work environment was very hectic some days, often times we weren't granted a break. Management showed favoritism towards certain employees. Pay was sub-par.

Excessive hours and short breaks
CASHIER (Former Employee) –  Oxon Hill, MDJune 11, 2018
Working at Shake Shack had more cons than pros. The money was good but the hours were too excessive because they had us work until 1 or sometimes 2 am. The hours were very long with only a 30-minute break which was in my opinion unacceptable. If you work at Shake Shack, you must be physically and mentally prepared for all the hours you will be working because it can be quite overwhelming.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Excessive hours and short breaks
