Boring workplace, what you'd expect for a school

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Not much work to do as a tutor, sit around and wait for students who need help. Good job for a student or FTE-equivalent looking for extra money or passionate about helping struggling students after school.

Faculty and staff are awesome. Management not much.

It’s a top down environment. If it’s not management’s idea, it’s not an idea. Faculty and staff are in one boat, management in another. Management always gets decent raises and will put themselves on new salary schedules to do so without appearing to get raises to the families in the district while they low ball staff when it comes to negotiating salaries.

good place to work, very highly skilled education school district..

the only issues was that my position as substitute custodian was very competitive and low hours. in order for you to get a regular position you have to wait to someone to retire or wait till beginning of summer season to apply.

I love teaching but there's a lot of learning too

I love teaching students and helping them understand different concepts. I'm amazed at how much I learn while teaching them. It can be stressful and challenging but rewarding too.

A great school with wonderful students

I had a temporary position and loved every minute. The school and atmosphere was welcoming and supportive. The hardest part was the position has been eliminated due to low attendance. The best part was working with my students on daily basis.

Rewardable place to work for.

I loved working with students of different ages and educational profiles. The Shaker basic culture promotes collaborative work that is appreciated by the colleagues and the administration.

Interactive Role

As a substitute I am able to select the assignments to my suitability. I thoroughly enjoy working with the high school children and have quickly developed a bond and trust with the children. Typically this is a supportive role for both the teachers and the students, yet is very rewarding. I enjoy working with the mentally handicapped students due to the dynamics of the role. No day is the same with these wonderful students and each students needs are unique; together in the lessons make a very interesting day. The job also allows me to learn through the students through the utilisation of teaching aides and techniques. I have also in this short time with the school district begun to learn some sign language through the interrupter. Overall, there is a lot to learn being in the school district and being in the schools as you are not limited to one school I am able to rotate from K-12

Progressive district with ambitious, creative and competent new administration

Socioeconomically and culturally diverse public school district in Northeast Ohio serving ~5,500 students.

Pros

Proactive in terms of teaming, utilization of technology, backward design and in the process of being accredited as an Int'l Baccalaureate school

Horrible place to work

I did not like working here during my internship. I enjoyed working with the children but that is it.
