Management is wonderful to us they are great leaders
Registered Nurse (RN) (Current Employee) - Albertville, AL - August 20, 2023
Sometimes our work can be so stressful but management always takes time to say thank you for the work you do & they are always looking for ways to encourage and guide us into what we need help with. We are a Non Profit Company which means that our pay may not be as much as other places but the rewards you receive along with the bonuses and the fact this company is willing to hold fund raisers just to be able to buy their employees up to date technology to where we can do our work as proficient as possible in a timely manner & If you work out in the field be prepared to get a text message from your boss that says bad weather is near you get in a safe place and pull over NOW & text me after the storm passes to let me know you are okay speaks volumes.
Pros
Being treated with respect love and compassion
Cons
Employees who have chosen to quit lie and say it is a bad company because it is not

Jobs at Shepherd's Cove Hospice
Great Place to Work
Social Worker (Former Employee) - Albertville, AL - July 19, 2023
I was employed as a home care social worker and found tremendous meaning in my work. The new CEO is very centered on patient/family care as well as making employees feel like valued members of the team. People have a preconceived notion that hospice must be a sad place, but in truth there is much more joy than sadness. When employees are struggling with the loss of a special patient or under the weight of multiple losses, or even with personal loss - management is always there to help. There is an open-door policy and an open line of communication that isn’t just policy, it’s implemented daily. Employees are valued and there is a strong sense of belonging within the community, by patients and families, and within the company. I would strongly recommend SCH as a great place to work. There is always room for improvement, and while I have small gripes - the organization as a whole is awesome and will continue to grow and thrive because most everyone there truly has a servant’s heart.
Pros
Flexibility, great training, most managers are very supportive, the work is meaningful
Cons
Pay is not that great, the cost of health/dental/benefits is pretty high, but the HR director is always looking for ways to decrease employee cost, the expectations for documentation turn around can be unrealistic at times

Run and don’t look back
Former staff (Former Employee) - All departments - May 25, 2023
Poor management. Bad communication with employees. Unfair treatment among employees. Management does not care about you, they only care about themselves. They bully you if you’re not a “favored” employee. Poor work/life balance. Multiple turnover. Multiple employees have quit over the last few years due to bad management.
Pros
Coworkers
Cons
Expensive insurance, no breaks at times, short staffed constantly

4 stars
Medical Social Worker (Current Employee) - Albertville, AL - June 30, 2022
What is the best part of working at the company? Helping families traveling the end of life journey, making memories with their loved ones, and helping patients and families understand end of life. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The case loads can be overwhelming and stressful at times. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Mostly supportive, though there are some that are about themselves, but that can be said for any job. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Busy, stressful, sad, joyful, happy, all within the day and sometimes within an hour.

Fulfilling work
Patient care (Former Employee) - Albertville, AL - January 29, 2022
I loved working here because of the people we helped and the genuinely wonderful people I worked with. These are some truly kind and inspiring coworkers. With it being a service that doesn’t charge anything beyond what insurance would cover, you won’t make very much, and you truly are doing it because you love the work. The insurance is good, too.
Pros
Great coworkers, feel good about what you do, pride in your company
Cons
Low pay

I have been with Shepherd's Cove Hospice for 10 years. We are a team. We work together and play together. We lift each other up and carry each other's burdens. We are family. Every one has different work ethics. If you do your job with a good attitude and strive to do your best and deticate yourself to the care of our patients and their families then there is room for promotion. Our Patients are our number one priority and we take pride in serving them. .

A supportive atmosphere with support to be the best you can be
Bereavement Social Worker (Current Employee) - Albertville, AL - January 14, 2021
A typical work day can be expected to be fast paced from start to finish. Working in the medical field, especially in the hospice realm, one has to expect their day to change from how they may "plan", but management is supportive in trying to help in whatever way possible. Workers are allowed flexibility to be the type of worker they want to be. Not a great deal of micromanagement from management. The trust in knowing the workers are professional and focused enough to get their job complete to the best of their abilities is one of the best attributes of the whole management. If one is struggling with work load or just emotionally from loosing a patient, support and help is there. One of hardest parts of the job is knowing your time with families and patients may be short, but this has the opportunity to instill the importance of doing the job right the first time. Another difficult part is documentation, but again, working in the medical field, this will always be a trouble part. However, Shepherd's Cove has taken STRIDES to help with the struggles of documentation in the 11 years I have been here. The most enjoyable part of my jobs are almost too much to type. The people I have met throughout my time here has greatly enriched my life for the better. The failures I have had have only grown me as a professional and person. I have a work family I know that cares about me and wants nothing but the best for me. I dreamed of working for Shepherd's Cove when I was a youngster and now I honestly can't imagine working anywhere else.
Pros
Great scale of paid time off
Cons
No food/lunch provided onsite

Outstanding place to work!
Receptionist/Office Assistant (Current Employee) - Albertville, AL - January 13, 2021
I have been with the agency for 14 years and hope to retire from this organization. Working here has been life changing for me as it has helped me to grow into other positions and be more compassionate and understanding. I encourage you to apply if you want to work for a place that has a great culture and cares about their employees, patients, and families.

Fabulous mission!
CEO & CTO (Current Employee) - Albertville, AL - January 12, 2021
I have been with SC for 31 years. The work is fulfilling. There are intangible benefits/blessings working with compassionate and knowledgeable people. It is expected that patients are treated as we would want our own family treated; it is expected that each team member pulls their own weight. Negativity and drama isn’t tolerated. I love the mission of this business of ministry! There are many staff who have been with SCH for greater than 10 years - significantly longer than the National industry average. Have had several staff who have left, worked for other agencies and returned to SCH!
Pros
Awesome team! Awesome mission!
Cons
Learning to cope with providing EOL care can be stressful but fulfilling.

Best place I have ever worked!!
Chief Relations Officer (Current Employee) - 408 Martling Road, Albertville, AL - November 4, 2020
Our staff genuinely cares about our patients and their families. They go above-and-beyond to make sure everyone gets the VERY best compassionate care possible. Our mission to provide peace, comfort, and dignity to EVERYONE walking the end-of-life journey is evident throughout the agency. Many of our employees have been here over 10 years and some even over 20 years! Turnover is very low. The employee culture is extremely positive, rewarding, and fun. I have never worked for a company with this much paid time off, flexibility, close camaraderie among departments, and creative employee appreciation practices. Shepherd's Cove Hospice is an incredible gift to this community!
Pros
Paid time off, 25% discount at Thrift Shoppe, employee recognition program, beautiful facility/work environment, encouragement/support from management, flexibility, upward mobility
Cons
Wish it was a little bit closer to my home!

Very bad place to work
Employee (Former Employee) - Albertville, AL - March 11, 2020
Stuck up management, no room for growth, takes it very personal if you find better work, talks down and degrades you, treats some workers like angels although those workers have very poor self esteem and I guess need the attention. Lots of great employees have left or have been let go. Company is not what people think it is. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Non-profit hospice
Primary On-call Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - Albertville, AL - March 1, 2020
Management plays favorites, not best fit for position, but rather, who is their buddy or will get upset if not promoted. LOts of cliques, if not part of clique then poor assignments and treated as if you do not matter. care more about themselves than you.
