Management is Poor
CDL Class A Route Driver (Current Employee) –  Cleveland, OHJuly 18, 2018
I can only speak for the Cleveland Division, but the management, dispatching, routing, and overall culture is very poor. The only things that kept me from leaving was the good health benefits, decent pay, and schedule that fit my personal needs.

Midwest Headquartered Food Distributor
Sales Account Manager (Current Employee) –  Detroit, MIApril 1, 2018
I sell meat, eggs and grocery items to a customer base of over 70 independent, butchers, convenience stores, restaurants, supermarkets (individual and chain), institutions, and other distributors.

I have learned a great deal about food distribution, including the raising of animals, the slaughter process, HACCP regulations, food warehousing, logistics, marketing and sales.

The management team at Sherwood has decades of experience in the food distribution business.

Sherwood is a fast paced work environment with collaborative relationships between management, sales, warehouse, logistics and account management.

The hardest part of the job is maintaining a high level of sales while competing with other food distributors in the area.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the feeling you get when you make good sale.
Pros
discounts for food, excellent healthcare insurance, close to my home.
Cons
long work days and weeks. I always work 6 days per week and sometimes 7.

Director of Operations (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMarch 20, 2018
Very poorly manage as senior leadership manipulates inventory to benefit themselves. This management group was responsible for bankrupting the Colorado Boxed Beef operations in Atlanta 12 years ago.

This place is for people who aspire to do nothing with their lives. Its a job and just that. its cold and super repetitive. People who have been there for a while seem to be very miserable and they feel as though the people around them are the reason they hate their lives, but they didnt seek anything but sherwood so thats what they got stuck with

transportation department
Dispatcher (Current Employee) –  Maple Heights, OHFebruary 9, 2018
The office atmosphere is loud and busy. There are always people in and out. Things are not very well organized and there is a lack of communication from one department to another, as well as one office to another within the transportation department. There is an issue with favoritism and not holding people accountable for their performance and completion of work. Some people are able to come and go as they please, while some people are forced to work 6 to 7 days a week. Most everyone is nice, and pleasant to work with, however some of the upper management is impossible to talk to / reason with, unprofessional at times, and when problems are brought to their attention they are swept under the rug and not dealt with accordingly. Training is a minimum, and most employees are thrown to the fire in a sense. Management has unrealistic expectations as to what can be accomplished in a day. The fast pace environment is great to work in, if you are the type of person who wants a curve ball everyday. No day is the same. This job has taught me a lot about the importance of organization and prioritizing, as well as setting a standard for my work ethic. I enjoyed that no day was ever the same. The benefits / 401K is great here, and there is never a shortage of overtime if you need it. Compensation for the work done is not to great, but the overtime pay, and never ending supply of work some say make up for it. There is never really any time during the day to be able to take a proper lunch break, but no one minds if you eat at your desk when you can catch a moment of time. The job itself is  more... not well represented to those applying, or during interviews. Management makes it seem likes its all rainbows and butterflies, and that is far from the truth.  less
