With rumors of Takeda, it's unclear what will happen going into 2019. After the Baxalta/Shire merge, I can only imagine that there will be more layoffs. Pay is okay, but HR is strict and pushes back on compensation and personal benefits. My current manager is great, but majority of the company does not have supportive leadership.

Absolutely abysmal place to work. The donor clientele is extremely rude and often outright abusive towards staff and management does absolutely nothing to stop it. No work/life balance whatsoever with a rotating schedule and mandatory weekend shifts that make planning your life outside of work impossible, and their attendance policy is extremely punitive. The actual company benefits are decent; however, they pay poverty wages and given the toxic work culture I'm not sure why you'd want to stay there long enough to advance up the ladder. I wouldn't bother applying here unless you're specifically looking for entry-level lab experience and this is the only way you can get it.

Shire is a very exciting company to work for. I have always felt very welcomed and honored to work here. The staff is very cheerful and pleasant. They make it effortless to come to work every day. I look forward to see what Shire has in store for the future.

There are a lot of great people who work (have) for this company, but leadership/senior managers drive great employees to other biotech companies. Shire has "Core Values" which are crammed down your throat, but the leadership doesn't follow them. One is to be BRAVE and challenge. If YOU do challenge, you're labeled as a trouble maker and driven out of the company or to seek employment elsewhere. Their HR staff is basically useless unless there is a discipline issue and they're all over it! They do not support employees. I worked for the Supply Chain Lead (GG) who is absolutely THE WORST manager I have ever worked for...
