Unsafe doctors + vehicles
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - Providence, RI - October 11, 2023
People would fall asleep while driving from working such long days and being forced to drive back 4-6 hours on a Sunday night after working from 7am-7pm. Some doctors would not let you get an effective hold on an animal before they go in to vaccinate/draw blood. Very scary

Jobs at ShotVet
Don’t work here if you don’t need to
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Longwood, FL - September 19, 2023
You work in the call center where they give minimal training. You don’t receive help from folks besides two people. The pharmacy is drowning in orders and refunds are so common to have to do. You will be screamed at by customers. You have to learn to take deep breaths and calm yourself but if you can get pass the stress you’ll make it.
Pros
The other employees love to talk and have fun with enjoy her
Cons
Constantly changing upper management, unreasonable expectations, gossip, uncomfortable workplace

Disorganized mess, Management Short Sighted
Veterinarian (Former Employee) - New York State - July 26, 2023
Clinics are disorganized, every client shows up at the same time thinking the have an appointment. High turnover with leads and techs, so vets don't expect to have much experienced help. They do not value retaining good technical staff. No ability to record any veterinary notes and chaotic setting (CVS parking lot) is a liability waiting to happen. And when it does, they will go after your PLIT even if it had nothing to do with veterinary care and your PLIT rep agrees. Be careful.
Pros
flexible scheduling, puppies and kittens
Cons
Chaotic, poorly managed, high turnover rate, total tinder box

Fun coworkers, very broken system
Lead (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - July 24, 2023
Bad tech, disorganized, and very poorly staffed/ran at a foundational level. Coworkers all amazing, which kept me coming back. Ridiculous routing and absurd shifts with zero per diem pay was not tolerable after a time. Their high turnover rate should be obvious, but "burn and turn" method is how these leaders work. Low pay, no benefits, and low hours (despite 15 hour shifts are the norm) make this a decent choice for quick income, but this is not a wise career choice long term.

Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - Rhode Island - June 30, 2023
These animals are in a bad situation, they are giving shots with needles in parking lots, stores, and aisles, it's just a really bad scenario for a lot to go wrong! My trainer on the 1st day got stabbed multiple times from dogs who just didn't want to get shots, many of my co-workers had been bit, it was just a really bad situation! Not to mention your hauling these heavy tables out at every stop, along with 3 shopping carriages of equipment it's ridiculous! Also, the driving is also horrendous! They send you sometimes over 6 hours away and you have to stay in the most disgusting hotels/motels there is never any food or any time to eat we go two days eating gross food because we are all so beyond exhausted!!
Pros
You do get 36 hours in 2 days on travel teams
Cons
traveling, dirty animals that are not treated well, rude veternarians, bad motels, extremely bad pay!

Run far from this company
Lead (Former Employee) - Nevada - April 26, 2023
Do not work for this company! Your hours will be cut without notice and they will lie to you about why. There is zero communication and the doctors have huge egos. They will hire more people than can fit in the van and force you to rotate weekends without ever giving you a heads up. Do not rely on this job for a main source of income, as you will need a second job. You will not get full time hours like they advertise. They will also make you room with random strangers when you first start. you won’t get your own hotel room even though others on your team will.
Pros
you get a lot of hours because of the driving
Cons
bad management, poor communication, bad training

Very nice environment
Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - April 2, 2023
It’s great to work here but have to adjust to working with other people who do things differently. Work hours are long but are mostly traveling out of state. Overall is a job where you have to be respectful to one another to make this job work. Very easy to learn and very helpful

Most coworkers are fun, management is terrible
Mobile Lead (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - March 2, 2023
God please do not work here. The management is so shady and disrespectful to your needs. Starting out was good, but communication between management and the people overlooking each team was horrific. False promises
Pros
Learning about vaccines
Cons
No breaks/have to take them when you have time/management

Long hours, weekend work only, but toxic
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - College Station, TX - February 9, 2023
Working long hours on weekends (average 15-17 hours per day Saturday and Sunday). Good for college students needing time during the week for school. Lots of driving and travel because they do not operate locally, so minimum travel distance was just over an hour, maximum travel distance was to Louisiana for full weekend work. Only overnight is on Louisiana route. Fast paced, but vaccines are stored on ice in coolers and not in a temperature controlled refrigerator on the vans. Lots of prevention options. Potential to get good health insurance if you can manage to work more than 36 hours every week, which is next to impossible if you only work weekends. A typical day starts when you walk into the building to get keys to the van and all of the equipment and supplies for the day. Once the van is loaded, you drive anywhere from 1-4 hours to get to your first stop of the day, usually a pet store. Once inside and set up, you see patients for 1 hour. Anyone in line bwfore the allotted hour ends is also seen. If you have 20 people in line that have yet to be checked in or seen by the doctor for vaccines after the hour is over, you stay until everyone is seen. This means you can stay an extra hour or two at each stop, sometimes making it late to your next stop or even skipping lunch altogether. There is no designated lunch time, and if you work through the time allotted for lunch and to get to your next destination, so won't get lunch because you are expected to be at the next stop no later than the scheduled start time. You can call corporate and have them call the location if you -

Not great
Technician (Former Employee) - Maryland - November 21, 2022
Hours are pretty flexible depending on your schedule, but the pay isn't great and the work can be stressful. Lots of customer interaction. Training and onboarding could be better.

Say goodbye to friends
Manager (Former Employee) - Sanford, FL - November 15, 2022
Over worked and underpaid is all you can expect here. No matter how many hours you put in per week, they will continue to ask more and more from you. You are expected to be in the office for 45 hours minimum per week but expected to work 100 hours with zero days off. If you enjoy going out with your friends, you will be sure to have zero friends after working here. There is no time for them in this endless downward spiral. Management is full of fake individuals that would sooner step all over you to better themselves no matter how "close" they say you are.

Awful Management, Unorganized Mess
IT Project Manager (Former Employee) - Longwood, FL - November 14, 2022
Please run far from this company. It's a hot mess. If the top 3 management would take a back seat, then there might be hope for ShotVet. I regret taking this position. It was an awful experience. I am amazed how much less stressed I am now WITHOUT a job than I was with that job. Advice to Management: Slow down. Do things correctly. What's the rush all the time? Stop with the constant check ins and micro-managing. Maybe that is needed for the tons of young employees, but not for the older professionals.
Pros
Nice office building and location, A few very competent and bright people in management and higher roles, They seem to do a bit of promoting from within.
Cons
All hired programmers are from India, Very little thought is put into projects - don't have to do things correctly just have to do things, always a fire to put out, Tell you it's M-F but then get upset if you aren't available all weekend, Overworked and underpaid, HEAVILY micro-managed, 3rd in charge comes off as genuine and a 'people person' but he's about as fake as they come, Don't get sick - you'll be shamed for not showing up for work, Questionable character of upper management, There are cameras everywhere even in individual offices

Disorganized
New Business Development (Former Employee) - Lake Mary, FL - July 24, 2022
Beware! This company is extremely disorganized. Owners act as if you are not there. Work place is very dirty and there are boxes and signs all in walkway. If they decide that you are no longer needed, they send you an email telling you that.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Disorganized, no benefits

not bad for college kids who don’t need much money
Technician/Lead (Current Employee) - College Station, TX - May 23, 2022
they do not pay enough, between traveling and the stops you set up & interact with customers you’re pulling anywhere from 12-18 hour days saturday and sunday starting as early as 4:30 AM with absolutely no guaranteed lunch breaks and some days you don’t have time between the stops they planned for you to get and eat a meal. you can’t warm anything up or keep anything in the cooler so if you need to eat you better bring your own cooler and make it quick and easy so you can eat and drive. the pay for what they expect of you is an absolute joke, especially if you’re certified/licensed or have years of experience. they don’t care much of you, corporate wise. it is fun since you get to meet new people and travel, you could optionally go to other states, but you don’t get per diem and they will put you in sketchy motels.
Pros
travel, meet people
Cons
no breaks, poor compensation, poor work life balance

Love love love my job!
Team Lead (Current Employee) - Naperville, IL - May 15, 2022
ShotVet has by far been the most fun job I have ever had. I get to travel every weekend and take care of dogs and cats along the way. The training was really good. Mostly on the job but a bunch of little quizzes and videos. My field supervisor has been incredible. She helped me through the entire process and works with me each weekend to make sure I was comfortable. I love her love for her job. She used to work in the corporate office and they transferred her but you can see her passion for her job and it is infectious.

Lead/Tech Assistant (Former Employee) - Gastonia, NC - May 4, 2022
I love traveling. Only had to work 2 days a week and enjoyed it. Management went down hill after people left to the point the office I work out of was shut down due to The CPO.
Pros
Meeting new people and their pets. Enjoyed the team I worked with
Cons

Dogs and Cats Every Day - My Dream Job at My Unicorn Clinic
Team Lead (Current Employee) - Providence, RI - April 30, 2022
I suffer from anxiety and it has been really hard for me to get my feet in the door at an animal hospital that is not toxic. So many places have clicks that are mean and doctors who make the place a really difficult place. I love working at ShotVet. First we travel from place to place so it is always fresh and nice to be in a new place and if you are having a rough day - wait 5 minutes and we get to a new place. I love my team. Problems are addressed quickly and fairly. Pay is VERY good compared to where I was and the bonuses are really nice and make me feel appreciated.

Helped Me Get Into Vet School!
Team Lead & Tech (Former Employee) - Longwood, FL - April 24, 2022
I worked at shotvet as a lead and a technician while I was in undergrad. I am now almost done with vet school and plan to go back some weekends to help pay down my student loans. This company does amazing things for pets and staff. They genuinely care about their staff and there is no better way how to handle all types of animals then to work in an environment like this where you get exposure to all sorts of pets with various demeanor. It greatly prepared me for analyzing various pet personalities/behaviors in vet school. I also think that there are so many pets out there suffering from parvo and going unvaccinated. People think rabies is nonexistent and they are wrong. It is still critically important that pets of all economic backgrounds get care. I worked at a regular clinic in high school and the prices were cringe-worthy. So many pets got the bare minimum because it cost $70 for an exam so many would only have $100 and get the exam and rabies only. At ShotVet pets can get fully vaccinate and hw tested, lyme tested for a small fraction of the cost. Here is the big secret - most of the vets that work here also work at a regular clinic during the week and charge all of the extra fees there. You literally get the exact same thing - with the exact same vets - and can actually afford it. I am very excited to get to come back as a DVM and the pay for us is very good.
Pros
Pay - Low Cost Shots - Experience Assessing Animal Behavior
Cons
None
