Operations Technician (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXMarch 16, 2019
Great place to work, snacks and water provided on every floor in both buildings. Great supervisors on both day and night shift. They work with you if you have any struggles during the learning process.
Pros
Free lunches here and there and pool table any time
Cons
Didn't do enough for activities for night shift as they did for day shift employees

Silicon Labs has an amazing, relaxed workplace. Despite the amount of tech advancement that comes out of this place, it is still very encouraged to keep your work-life balance.

Brilliant technical staff
Hardware Engineer (Former Employee) –  Hillsboro, ORMarch 1, 2018
There are some very bright engineers working at Silicon Labs. Engineers of any experience level likely have something to learn from their operations and design flows. New hire training is lacking for the remote design teams, but a more seasoned engineer won't have trouble picking up the routine.

Smartest co-workers you will ever have
Senior Applications Engineer (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXJanuary 8, 2018
Silicon Labs has done a great job of assembling a highly talented workforce. Whether you are in technical or administrative work, you get to interact with super sharp people every day. Compensation is very good (although the glory days of big ESPP gains may be behind them). Work life balance and respect for peers is also very good.
Pros
Challenging work and smart colleagues
Cons
Downtown commute

Midsize company with growing pains
GRC / Security Administrator (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXJuly 28, 2017
Silabs has a very entrepreneurial culture. Management is good about leaving people alone to do their jobs. Work life balance is important at this company, and it shows.

Because it's still small, people often wear many hats. It is rare to be bored, and there is always the opportunity to learn something new.
Pros
Good work life balance, good benefits
Cons
Limited opportunity for advancement

Web Team Intern (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXJanuary 3, 2016
At Silicon Labs I worked with a mentor to write programs for the company. I learned a lot from my mentor and everyone on the team was very helpful and encouraging.

The hardest part of the job was learning the programming language in such a short time -- it was also the most enjoyable part of the job.

Excellent Place for Interns
Software Engineering Intern (Former Employee) –  AustinOctober 12, 2015
I got opportunity to intern at Silicon Labs, Ausitn in Summer 2015.
It is a big company but in its core it works like a startup so the culture is very open and full of learning. You can approach to seniors and discuss the issues you are facing and get guidance how to proceed. Also, you have enough scope to build upon on your own ideas and solutions.

Smart Work Environment with unclear direction
Networking Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  AustinSeptember 27, 2015
Great company focusing more on IoT for future growth. Engineers were knowledgeable and were willing to entrust large projects to you. You'll learn a lot of new technologies if you work here! Sometimes, it felt that the environment encouraged staying late to work. Part of this is because the company is trying to establish itself in some very competitive markets such as IoT.

Overall great experience!
Pros
Good Compensation, Smart Engineers, Nice Location
Cons
Work Life Balance tilted towards work sometimes, not clear how successful the company will be in the future

Mature company trying to implement a startup feel
Applications Engineer (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXJune 22, 2015
As far as working environment, it seems very laid back. As long as you are getting your work done in the time frame given, nobody is going to harp on you. There is somewhat of a workaholic feel for some teams, but it's up to you to determine how much you are going to give in to that kind of pressure.

As far as management, they seem to be disjointed from the rest of the employees. There is always some sort of reorganization going on and nobody knows what high-level division they are actually apart of half the time.

As far as outlook, the company seems to be going in the same direction as the rest of the industry: Internet of Things! Which is great... if you are within that division; otherwise you will feel like you are anything but a part of the company's future.
Pros
Laid back work environment, working on more perks
Cons
Narrow vision, workaholism is condoned

Great Place to Work
Senior Human Resources Manager (Aug'13) (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXJune 1, 2015
Although the work/life balance is sometimes skewed towards work, Silicon Labs is a company that employs motivated and intelligent people. If less rules and more ambiguity is your forte, you will do well.

Our benefits and compensation are well above the area's median and on par for a high tech company.

high pay comes at a price
Product Test Engineer (Former Employee) –  Austin, TXApril 24, 2015
I am surprised the company has not been more successful yet. They hire the best talent out there, pay them well to get them and keep them, and demand 100% from everybody including management. By far, this was the most demanding, most rewarding, and most fun job I have had. Everybody, including managers, would work long hours and create a true team environment where everybody helps out which I found inspiring. Team members may also get lend to other teams if there project needs another helping mind/hand. Groups are run very lean. Management has little patience for talent or projects that don't meet quota. Profits are shared with employees.
Pros
good pay, true team environment
Cons
poor work/life balance
