Updating the sorian and MAK systems ASAP. organization is key. making charts and lists when training needs to be completed. doing team huddles before shift to update staff on any new or pertinent information or changes in polices and procedures. treating your team members with respect and working with both strengths and weaknesses and building each other up. providing a meditation/relaxation room. providing mandatory communication courses for management and staff. keeping the unit and break-rooms clean and organized. standardized colors for RNs (blue), aides(grey), and RT (black) so that patients can identify staff and it would help during codes and identifying staff roles. making sure there are enough supplies for each shift. providing ongoing 1 to 1 training if necessary. On heavy med surg units, a 5 to 1 ratio would be reasonable and would help with patient overall care and would help with turnover and burnout rates.Charge RNs should help with admissions. Also, there should be 2 staff present for the skin assessment and witness in sorian to prevent skin breakdown. It would be nice to put built in cabinets near the patients rooms for standard precaution equipment and cleaning wipes. Cisco phones should be provided to all staff to communicate, instead of having to search the unit for them. Also, providing a suggestion box for staff concerns or improvement ideas. It would be nice if Tim Hortons stayed open for night shift workers and families. The aides should also have more responsibilities.
