If you're 16-17 you can't work more than 7 hours, and once you turn 18 or graduate they keep you as long as you let them.

The hours were good sometimes I usually worked six hours or if they needed me to stay then 10 hours

Working hours are usually long, especially when you are a trainer or anything above that. You usually work from opening to closing which would be a good 10+ shift

I can't speak for all departments but in retailing for my experience, I had to stay for about 2 to 3hrs from schedule during closing. Which was a disappointment because they'll take advantages of you/anyone. If it was opening it's much relieving than closing very late.
