The most useful review selected by Indeedsolid place to work - most people are very smart and willing to help. leadership changes objectives a lot but it does depend on what team you are. Overall good, but seems to be going down hill

Great Company, No Management Direction
Business Development Manager (Current Employee) - San Diego, CA - September 27, 2022
I love working for Slack as a company and generally love the product and the company's mission to create a Digital HQ. However, there is little to no direction from senior leadership and managers tend to shift metrics and goals very often without informing their employees. This is very frustrating as it is difficult to tell how you're doing in any given role.

Poor work life balance/high chaos
Manager (Current Employee) - San Francisco, CA - November 5, 2020
Startup mentality, over allocated staff, long days, little appreciation for efforts, inconsistent messaging from top down, low maturity as an organization, burnout, history of high attrition, likely due to leadership issues and over allocation of resources without extra compensation. Elitist attitude toward coworkers and lack of support and recognition from coworkers and leadership. Extreme focus on diversity, at the expense of the homogeneous. Lack of time to attend training. Loss of on site benefits of lunches and nice workspace due to Covid, etc. etc. etc........ Extra workload due to Covid, not enough money to cover expense of working from home, mixed messaging on future remote work policy

Great place to work
Lead Facility Coordinator • Contractor (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - August 14, 2020
Like any Tech company in San Francisco, there are a lot of perks but Slack has a laid back work environment that allows you to do you job and be creative. I can't wait until Covid allows us to all go back to work!

Wonderful work environment and mentorship
User Research Intern (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - January 13, 2020
Slack was one of the best research and work experiences I have ever had. The research team was stellar and provided the mentorship I desperately wanted. They provided constructive feedback on my work and guidance on being successful in the industry. The company culture was supportive and great. They wanted you to be happy and go home at the end of the day. I felt like a part of the team since day 1. The perks and people were great. 10/10 an amazing company to be a part of.

No real training
Helpdesk Technician (Former Employee) - NY - August 1, 2019
They pretty much sink or swim you .if you can't adjust to their system without training you are let go. They also let the FTE employees roam free without and responsibility. So it's on you to learn and train yourself and if you mess up prepare for a write up.
Pros
good people and users
Cons
poor management, micromanagement and only contract positions available no full time

Manager needs improvement, good culture overall
Receptionist (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - October 14, 2018
The manager I worked with was terrible, and needs further training to do her job better. The amount of responsibility versus the payoff for this role was not worth it by any means.
Pros
Free food and coffee
Cons
no breaks besides unpaid lunches, poor management

Terrible company with horrible people
Procurement Specialist (Current Employee) - San Francisco - December 8, 2017
If you actually care about yourself, do not work for slack. It is a horrible company with bad management written all over it. I would not be surprised if it went bankrupt within 7 years.

Overworked and underpaid
Business Analyst (Former Employee) - San Francisco - October 18, 2017
Procurement staff is hostile and threatens the team if you submit an rfp on every occasion. Toxic work environment and management steals your work and credits it as their own.
