good job for single people
HERD TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) –  Laverne, OKMay 21, 2018
Smithfield would be a good company to work for if you are a single person looking for a good income job. I wouldn't suggest working for the company if you have a family.

Stay away from Smithfield
Bacon Press Comb Puller (Former Employee) –  Monmouth, ILMay 20, 2018
If you're young and want money and no life with only Sundays off, go for it. If you have a family and plan to keep them, stay away from this place. Great benefits but 10+ hours, 6 days a week, lots of risk for injuries.
I've worked in construction previously for many years with no major injuries. I've seen so many injuries in this place, the repetitive use of joints is killer. You'll wake up in the morning not being able to feel your hands for 10+ minutes just from the continuous use, good luck snoozing that alarm!
In the end I was making close to $1100 a week but only going home with little under $700, which is decent weekly pay but taking into account the injuries(from faulty equipment), poor management, lazy co workers (the plant is full of them), a medical staff that is there for the company not for you, long hours and days; working here is not worth it.

High mobility for hard workers wishing to achieve security and financial stability.
Production Worker I (Current Employee) –  Junction City, KSMay 12, 2018
Temperature on the floor is roughly 40 degrees. The work weeks are long, normally 5 12-hour shifts, but can be up to 6 days weekly. Job involves organizing, so it can be enjoyable to those who like order and organization. Jobs on a line rotate hourly and workers box, palletize, pocket fill, and fill loading slots throughout the shift so the job isn't too monotonous. Those who endure the probation period enjoy a swift move up in compensation during the first year. To achieve better salaries, one can opt for other positions within the company.
Pros
Excellent benefits, quick upward mobility potential, environment where employees and management are familiar with each other, on-site wellness therapy
Cons
Short breaks, long hours, extended exposure to cold, repetitive motion stress

Package Handler (Former Employee) –  Peru, INMay 8, 2018
I work 3rd shift so, my night begins at 11:00p.m. It's very cold but once your on the floor working, unless you are a catcher it warms right up. They have great benefits! They lack communication big time and, I personally feel it would be a great place to work if the hours were different and staff communicated.

Its only worth it for the money
Production Worker (Former Employee) –  Monmouth, ILMay 4, 2018
The company promises fair treatment but that's grossly untrue. If you aren't willing to kiss butt hard you won't last. The place really is more about who you know and how you play the game then how well you actually do your job. Also expect to get moved from your spot to fill someone else's often since people can't handle the job.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Poor management, unstable hours, working 6 days a week more then not, not flexible and only help when you get hurt.
