Director of Field Operations in San Antonio, TX

Soldiers' Angels offers dozens of different programs and services for active duty, Veterans, and their family members. So, how do they do it? First, Soldiers' Angels has identified Veterans needs all across the country. Second, generous and wonderful people with resources support and equip Soldiers' Angels to do what needs to be done. And third, the organization is brilliantly staffed, from the CEO to the staff and Volunteers. Thousands of Volunteers around the world work tirelessly because they believe in the mission, the organization, and they love serving. The CEO is perfectly aligned with her role, and her skills and personality have created a culture of hard work and fun. Soldiers' Angels is full of people who are passionate about what they do, who love coming to work and being part of a team, and who get to serve the most wonderful, deserving people on the planet. So, is Soldiers' Angels right for you? Only you can decide. Soldiers' Angels certainly works for me.

The job is amazing. The leader of this company is incapable of fairness, fails to lead by example. Allows for drinking on the job and then having Dock workers go back to work for the day under the influence. Perpetuates drama between departments.

The mission at Soldiers' Angels is a great one, make sure no veteran goes unloved. For the amount of time we spend working I feel like there is room for significant progress. Much of the workplace is stuck in antiquated and redundant systems where you have to accomplish the same thing three times over or via excel sheets. It is probably an 80% admin- 20% helping veteran ratio due to the redundant systems.

I found Soldiers' Angels after leaving the military. I started as a volunteer and then applied for a position with the organization. It has been an amazing experience. We work hard and don't make as much as we could in the corporate world, but the management recognizes that and tries to balance that with other perks. It's a great family environment with cats and dogs in the office. We get to wear jeans and tennis shoes to work. We have potlucks, special events, Fitbit step challenges, flexible work schedules when we have appointments or sick children at home, and it's a family environment. We lost a staff member this year and it's times like that when you see how important your work family is to you!

It’s unfortunate that the toxicity in the environment starts with the CEO. The CEO has an “It’s all about me!” attitude and has a fault-finding mentality. The mission is incredible which is what keeps employees there from making the decision to leave sooner. If the Board knew what was happening, the CEO would have her walking papers.
