Friendly place
Projects (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 2, 2018
Great place to "work"! Friendly co workers, Great work life balance. A small company that grew too big too fast so they still have a small company mindset which is not necessarily a good thing. Additionally its a government org so there is a lot of compartmentalization of necessary information. I worked on new projects so i dont have much on the operations. But the Projects side was mostly meetings with contractors/consultants to review their work.
Pros
work life balance, great place to retire, excellent benefits
Cons
not much work, loss of skills

Room to Grow and a Few Growing Pains
Employee (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAApril 12, 2018
The people at Sound Transit are passionate about what they do. The agency is growing, so in general there is room for employees to grow. Tuition reimbursement and internal promotions aid this. That being said, there are some typical bureaucratic challenges. Audits, oversight and regulations can make appearingly simple things move slowly.
Pros
Intelligent Coworkers

Anoymous (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WANovember 13, 2017
Slot of underhanded bureaucracy. Lots of shady contracts and older tenured people who do whatever they want.

Interesting environment...hires tons in contractors and temps to fill the gaps

Sound Transit Work Review
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WANovember 8, 2017
Sound Transit is rapidly growing with light rail expansion across Seattle. The Work life balance is great and the health benefits top notch. Salaries are on the low side and the corporate culture is not one that promotes performance. Upper management in the key departments do not communicate well and hence suffers a silo effect that hinders achieving excellence.
Pros
work life balance and benefits
Cons
upper leadership and department silos

Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Seattle Unnion StationNovember 5, 2017
The management in the Facilities Department is sophomoric, petty, and vindictive. Upon close comparison the salary and benefits are rather weak compared to other businesses with similar responsibilities and skill set requirements. AYOR

Great Place to work!
Engineer (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAAugust 30, 2017
The pay structure is not good enough to be competitive in the Seattle Job Market. The Seattle job market is very competitive. Its hard to attract young talent, because the benefits attract more senior workers later in their careers.

Accounting (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 1, 2017
Great for people looking for work life balance. Not the best for advancement opportunities, however, they will tell you otherwise. Very high standards on the people who they hire, so you should feel good on if they pick you.
Pros
Great hours
Cons
No room for improvement

Their fiscal year end lasts 5 months so this takes a very dedicated staff and management to keep this train on the right track.

Sound Transit is a great place to learn new things
Admin (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAJune 16, 2015
Sound Transit is a great place to learn new skill sets but the organization as a whole is a bit slow moving. It's slow to adapt and projects take a long time to get in motion.
Pros
Good work life balance! Lots to learn!
Cons
Rigid schedule of 8 - 5

Hostile Environment
Battered and Beaten (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAAugust 16, 2014
Divisions are working against each other. This comes from the top down. This culture is noticeable almost immediately to new employees who begin to become defensive and unprofessional as a result. There are some very hard working people at Sound Transit. HR makes it a breeding ground for lazy people as well.
Pros
Good Mission
Cons
Unprofessional environment and bad management

Property Management/ Security Officer (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAJune 28, 2014
I loved working here.

Property Management

What I learned

* Honoring people by their word doesn't hold value. Sometimes you have to go out and see the work of people you are in charge of.
* Property boundaries are constantly changing whether you want them to happen or not.
* More verbal judo and in a civilian sense

Security Patrolman

* The public transportation system is vital to the public especially in growing cities like Seattle.
*
Pros
Great place to work
Cons
Gossip can be a problem in the security field
