You are but a number. You only get on if you fit in. Managers want the job done whether it can be or not is irrelevant.
Pros
There are no pros apart from there is life outside
Cons
Long hours

Neighbourhood Warden (Current Employee) –  Shirley, HampshireMay 11, 2019
Front line staff are largely ignored by management, there is a culture of what do you expect me to do about it?
Too much box ticking instead of being out there.
Lack of support
Pros
Paid holiday leave
Cons
Overworked as too few staff

If your a yes person and don't want to move up and your face fits your ok. Only decent thing is the wages. No support system and over worked in some areas. To quick to want to get rid of people if they ask questions.

Administrator (Former Employee) –  Southampton, HampshireFebruary 4, 2019
Everything changes quickly and management have little control over the workload or decisions so your work can shift quickly.

Meetings galore and not productive meetings!

Neighbourhood Warden (Former Employee) –  SouthamptonSeptember 15, 2018
I only worked here for a week. I would meet up with a warden and help him/her with tasks such as cleaning and maintenance. This taught me how to follow instructions, how to work well under a budget and to use my initiative. There was also ample opportunity to interact with members of the public during work. Overall the job wasn't very strenuous, everybody was very friendly and helpful

Assistant Worker Foundation Years & Play (Current Employee) –  SouthamptonJune 21, 2018
Working in the children and families division of the city council where budgets are constantly being cut making job security a real negative for this position. Staff morale low at times due to lack of job security. Supportive management team for the department who are always encouraging staff to excel via personal development and in-house training.
Pros
Meeting different people everyday!
Cons
Traffic around the city

Social Worker (Former Employee) –  SouthamptonMay 15, 2018
Some excellent social workers but they tend to move on as does the change in senior managers.
Flexible working is supported and the location is good- makes up for the lack of provisions in house(dishwashers, drinking water, coffee)! Staff support one another and they have a lot of in house services (until they get cut!)
Pros
Location and staff are great! Flexible working streaks ahead of neighbouring LAs.
Cons
Not the greatest chairs or basics for staff in the office.

I had several jobs in the city council, each one was different but all were customer based. Some of the jobs had chances of advancing further with extra training.

Library Assistant (Former Employee) –  HampshireNovember 7, 2017
Every day is different, according to the customer needs. Sometimes I am able to use my language skills if we get tourists in.

Took the European computer driving licence, which mine is now out of date.

Hardest part of job came when the staff numbers had to be cut, and cut!

Estate neighbourhood warden (Current Employee) –  Southampton EastSeptember 28, 2017
Scc is good to work for but with massive cut backs
Constantly in fear of losing your job.
You are left to get on with jobs on your own so being able to work on your own initiative for the most of your time.
Little to no real support from managers. (Unless things start to go wrong !! Then you have managers breathing down your neck.
Pros
Scc van, 28 days annual leave per year, all bank holidays off.
Cons
Policy and procedures to much red tape
