Parking Asset Manager (Former Employee) – Vienna, VA – November 27, 2017
The company gives you all of the resources to be successful at your position. They offer several of their own courses. Just be aware these courses and certifications are only useful within as they do not transfer to other property management companies. They only train you to work at their company.
Assistant Property Manager (Former Employee) – Hillcrest Heights, MD – November 30, 2018
This is not a company that has quick advancement to upper level positions. If you are willing to wait for advancement them it is a amazing company for you. Great benefits, competitive pay, great locations.
GROUND TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) – Oxon Hill, MD – September 26, 2018
this company is great, they give you the opportunity to grow and expand your knowledge. team engagement is very important and they share their mission vision and values with their team members, very transparent.
Administrative Assistant II (Former Employee) – Greenbelt, MD – September 17, 2018
I have worked for Southern management for almost 23 years. The company is very reliable and structured. I have been a leasing professional for most of my time with the company. It is very hard to advance in the company because current property managers never retire. I am ready to move on at this point in my life to see what career choices lie ahead.
Administrative Leasing Professional (Current Employee) – Oxon Hill, MD – September 10, 2018
Southern Management has several communities. Each community is very different. There are some that are very fast paced and others that are not. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement However, it may take years because the turnover rate is very low.
LEASING PROFESSIONAL (Current Employee) – Laurel, MD – August 23, 2018
The amount of time, energy and money that this company invests in to their employees is unparalleled.
I was compensated fairly and I always felt valued. I was offered plenty of advancement and learned every day. There was always enough to do and even more to learn. They always encouraged me to be the best me I could!
Receptionist (Former Employee) – College Park, MD – July 23, 2018
At the College Park, MD Southern Management Corporation office, it is business/casual attire. The office is mostly relaxed, but can get busy from time to time. The employees as well as the Managers were very nice and professional.
The pay isn't great, but it's steady work. You can learn a lot by going to the in house school. There are benefits that the company can't shut up about. There's a pension, but it's not a pension. They just call it that. It's just a small fund of money that is fully vested after 6 years. Most people don't ever get more than $70,000 in it. Even after 20 years with the company.
If you are interested in property management/ real estate this company will definitely provide you with the education and foundational material you will need to succeed. It's a fun company to work for and they do a lot to engage their employees. However, they tend to be a bit dated with some of their policies and the way they conduct the company. Innovation is not one of their strong suites to say the least.
SMC is a terrific place for advancement once you are hired for employment; it is difficult to get it with SMC. My building was purchased by SMC, and my entire team of 23 individuals and I were asked to remain on after the merger occurred. The pay rate increased dramatically on day one! I recommend this company for the younger professional in mind, 25-30, who wants to manage apartment homes.
apartment home discounts; great vacation; good boss
