Southstone is a work in progress. The work is challenging, since you are working with children that have had trauma in their life. They do pay well.

The company is money motivative and not truly centered on patient care and care of the staff. They were not organized and did not have clear policies that were followed. When I started working in an executive position, I was trained by my subordinates who were not following policy and protocol all of the way. I frequently reached out and asked for additional training and was denied stating that online training was available- which the online training was geared towards hospitals and not residential treatment. The work culture was toxic.

Co-workers displayed a can-do attitude when faced with adversity and felt a purpose to provide compassionate care to the patients served. I personally was encouraged, challenged, grew in every position and department I have worked in. Those that contributed to that were my day-to-day co-workers all the way to the personal interactions with current and previous CEOs.

Management in Southstone is poor. Too bad that residents have to suffer the lack of consistency and structure. Upper management staff plays favoritism, management does not care about personal well-being or family issues. However, colleagues are supportive, knowledgeable and helpful during duress times.

The plan for running the place is never the plan for more than four or five months before upper management has a change of the guard and everything changes. Turn over of experienced competent people is high as there are not many opportunities to move up. Corporate would rather hire outside of the current staff pool instead of promoting from within. Staff gets tired of waiting for things to get better and leave. Biggest issue with this place is keeping kids longer than necessary to keep the money coming in. Kids are allowed to tear the place up so the place looks like a war zone. No consequences for the kids.
