Scrum Master (Current Employee) - Herndon, VA - January 20, 2019
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by Indeedgreat environment. Learned to work as a team and in a diverse culture. Management is helpful, and easy to get along with. The best thing about working here is the perks and the people and sense of accomplishment.

This company you will get what you put into it
Provisioning Agent (Current Employee) - Atlanta, GA - December 10, 2023
At this job, it can be a great place to work if you do as you were told by the book of procedures. I learned that if you do your job to the full extent of your ability, your day will go smoothly... Southwest airlines is a company that treats you like family.. The hardest part of my job is the weather. The most enjoyable about my job is the people...
Pros
The benefits.
Cons
The weather can be distrubing

Jobs at Southwest Airlines
Great company to work for!
Recruiter (Current Employee) - Dallas, TX - December 7, 2023
Good benefits, culture, and positive work environment. The only thing I would say is that we are not the most competitive in the pay category but otherwise great place to be.

Love the company HATE my station
Ramp Agent (Current Employee) - Baltimore, MD - December 7, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Meeting new people traveling!! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? EVERYTHING depending on the station What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It is awful! Managers and supervisors threaten jobs constantly especially new hires, they love bullying new hires. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Completely stressful due to the lack of respect you get from management and supervisors

Not good
Pilot (Former Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - December 5, 2023
SouthWest are jerks to say the least. Poor working conditions and terrible training. You are just a number there no matter the position. Absolute joke of a company

Southwest Airlines insights
What people like
- Feeling of personal appreciation
- Ability to learn new things
- Clear sense of purpose
Fun place to work/Flight benefits
Flight Attendant (Current Employee) - San Antonio, TX - December 3, 2023
Being a Flight Attendant with SWA is great based off of the flexibility. You can give away your entire board or work as much as you want. Flexibility alone makes this job worth it!

Nepotism taken to the highest level. Extremely cliquish
Ramp Cargo Agent (Former Employee) - LaGuardia Airport, NY - December 2, 2023
As a former Ramp Agent at LGA i can honestly say that the high points this company professes to espouse and celebrate are highly contrary to what actually happens when you are 'on the ground' and working. The supervisors are all extremely clique-ish and the employee scramble for that coveted OT is ridiculously absurd. Everyone is literally out to screw the next one despite the whole "WE are like a family" nonsense that Southwest likes to espouse. I worked as a Ramp Agent and i will never go back to work for Southwest airlines again.
Pros
Out on your own...
Cons
payroll accounting deficiencies, un-trustworthy personalities

Great experience
Flight Attendant (Former Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - December 1, 2023
I would highly recommend flying with SWA for anyone. Young, old. Anyone! Southwest has an excellent commuter policy if you choose not to live in your base.

Fun work place. Supervisors have less than 1 yr with company so you get alot of different answers to a question
CSA - Customer Service Associate (Former Employee) - Austin, TX - December 1, 2023
Fun industry but the probation period is super long. It's hard to get a straight answer as many of the "leaders" haven't been with the company nearly as long as your coworker senior agents. It's best to learn from your coworkers

the luv, appreciation and daily challenges,as well as opportunities to move around the company make it special.
Source of Support Rep (Current Employee) - Remote - November 30, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The culture, the fact that Southwest hires heart over skills. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Delays and computer issues out of my control. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? You become part of a big family, our Culture is legendary. We work hard, and play hard. Our culture includes chili cook offs, Spirit parties, Rallies to name a few. Some positions are 100% remote, some are hybrid, others you have to be at the stations. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I work remotely on an internal support desk. I take inbound calls, solve problems, answer questions, fix reservations, operate 10 or more programs simultaneously. Serve as a subject matter expert to the agents at the airport as well as those on the 1800 line.

Great Culture and Benefits….but
Timekeeping Specialist (Former Employee) - Dallas, TX - November 30, 2023
In the Timekeeping Specialist role you will feel like you have a corporate job but with the schedule of an airport worker. The schedule is horrible. You will be working weekends and holidays. You will be dealing with issues that seemingly no one has the authority to improve or change. The workload is heavy especially if you’re being careful and trying to make sure you’re doing your job correctly. No benefit for doing a good job. Need to play the social game to find other opportunities in the company. Would not recommend as a long term job but good way to get your foot in the door.

A workplace where I wanted to be.
Ramp Supervisor (Former Employee) - Oakland, CA - November 29, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Great opportunities for growth and Southwest really values their employees. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Being held over for mandatory overtime. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Fun and energetic. I always liked going to work. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Always an emphasis on giving the customer the best experience possible while making sure the employees were taken care of.

They make you feel warm and fuzzy all while exploiting you at the same time.
Ramp Agent (Current Employee) - Denver, CO - November 26, 2023
I‘ve had pretty salty experiences since the first week. They advertised the job at $23.50/hr, but then in small print mentioned that it’s a base pay of roughly $20/hr, and a bonus that will be paid out every 3 months for 2 years. You also don’t get the full bonus if you’ve taken time off and the company can retract the bonus at any time they please. Just super deceptive any which way you cut it. Training supervisors don’t tell you your schedule until the Friday before your next week of training, and can change your schedule at any time. They want you to check your company email without compensating you for time, data, or WiFi used to do so. Around your second or third week in they make you go on a pointless trip to Dallas and is more like a glorified pep rally than it is actual training. The attendance policy makes no room for people who have kids as you’re only allowed to be absent/late 3 times in a 180 day probation. Once training is complete you pretty much have to start taking doubles if you want to be able to pay your bills. The job itself isn’t bad and can be fun depending on what you do and who you work with. It just feels like the job is overly demanding for what it pays.
Pros
Can sometimes be fun and has good health benefits.
Cons
Low pay, careless supervisors, limited advancement, and no tuition reimbursement. Basically just grooming and exploitation.

Good
Ramp Agent (Current Employee) - St. Louis, MO - November 22, 2023
Lots of down time, decent people to work with. The flight benefits are good but you can’t always utilize them starting out. Seniority based system for your hours.

Great company, but terrible dealing with the public
Customer Service Agent (Former Employee) - Kansas City, MO - November 22, 2023
The company is great, but dealing with the public is not so great. Great benefits, people were fun to work with, but wears you our dealing with passengers.

Great place to work
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Remote - November 20, 2023
Very fast paced, 30 minute lunches and 2 fifteen minute breaks. Great work like balance, flexible with time off. You would love working with the airline.

SWA is not who they seem
Ramp Agent (Former Employee) - Sacramento, CA - November 20, 2023
SWA was unprofessional and had two faced management. They displayed clear bias against people some stations and the union did some blame-shifting instead of helping the people they were obliged to represent. Many supervisors were afraid they could lose their jobs at anytime because they have no coverage at all. The aircrafts and ground equipment’s limits would be pushed more than other air carriers. My favorite part of the job was clocking out and walking away from the station every night.
Pros
Benefits in healthcare and 401k
Cons
Not enough appreciation for people keeping SWA in business
