Stressful

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
SWK seems to have a good management system but it really is not that way, the program directors and leads are usually very busy and stressed out; although they're intention to provide support and guidance is there, they are not always available. Due to high turnover, shelters are usually understaffed and therefore work load is extremely heavy, there's a lot of gossiping, the different departments are usually fighting against each other, it is difficult. if there is a lot of work, the program and the office of refugee (funding), expects you to work overtime no matter what. I usually made plans after work, but had to cancel so many of them due to having to stay OT. The only positive thing is the pay (otherwise nobody would work there, that's what most employees always said), they are flexible with hours when slow season. I tried to enjoy it and get used to the system, but it was not worth my time and health, too much pressure, no support from the funding source.

Stressful & bad management

Good pay, stressful due to bad management. No more hazard pay. Children make it all worth the stress. Coworkers are great! Appreciate the workers & they might stay.

Good purpose but management struggles with following through

The pay here is great, you do meaningful work working with unaccompanied minors. Those in leadership positions need to work on teamwork with other departments and communication. There’s going going issues with lack of communication and issues are consistent being brought up yet they are never resolved.

Pros

High pay, good benefits

Cons

Can be overworked, little chance of moving up, they don’t offer trainings in your field of work. Training are only focused on policy

Management is terrible. The population of minors are the best part of the job.

I worked here for three years. The salary was good and the benefits but management is terrible. The job has a purpose and I love what I did here with all the minors. But again management people were not good.

Good company

Good company to work for, fair pay, lots of overtime. Most coworkers were very helpful and helped each other. Some shifts are busier than others and must maintain a good pace and be attentive at all times

An Ok place to work. Lots of rules, which is normal given the circumstance and the children you work with.

It was a very tiring job, which is normal. Once you got the hang of it it was ok. Good trainings. Unfortunate favoritism. Enjoyed working with the children here. Learned alot about kids in other countries that I had not been to outside Mexico.

Balance life and work

It was hard to balance work and personal life. It has its good and bad. Great benefits. It was great working with the kids and having good co-workers..

Pros

Working with the children, salary and benefits

Cons

inept management

Pros- It has good benefits.Cons- too much favoritism / no breaks

It was a good place to work. It did have alot of favoritism. I enjoyed working with other staff. Management needs to treat others equally. You get no breaks and you get paid during lunch hrs. You ate what the youth ate.

management doesn't care about their employees or their mental health

Company will work you to the bone and will not care whenever you have personal issues, mental health assistance is a joke and every time the company gives some sort of "reward" for their employees who have worked forced overtime for the last year or so (12 hours everyday for 5 days) they take away something else, they will make working for them the most uncomfortable experience whenever they can or want to impress their donors. The pay is good but this place will suck the soul out of you.

Pros

Free lunch, good pay, decent benefits

Cons

Management, forced overtime, disregard for employees well being

Good job

Easy job if you follow rules. Big responsibilities. Long periods of standing. But over all is the easiest job I’ve ever had with great hours and pay.

Pros

No lunch

Cons

No breaks

Fun workplace.

The only thing I did not like about this place was the hiring process. It seems like they hire people without training or experience working with children by the way some people treat these children. Other than that, I really enjoyed working here.

Pros

Cons

work schedule is not flexible. Set hours.

WORST Management Ever .

Working with the children is the best part in the program . The management team is not professional because they Staff get fired without any reason and no warnings , too much gossiping and no fear investigation .Stay away from southwest keys everyone stabs you in the back starting with the directive . This company would be ideal for those who love and live for office gossip. The company would be ideal for those who live for office gossip. Management is cruel and despotic.

Pros

Great benefits and great training

Cons

Backstabbing staff. Gossip. Don't value staff works and years of good work

It was okay

I worked overnight and it was okay. Pay was good which is why I stayed as long as I did. I left for personal reasons. They only provided two 10 minute breaks which was not enough. They provided food but at night it was rarely any good.

Pros

Pay

Cons

2 short breaks, food provided sucked

Good benefits

I enjoyed helping children find forever homes. The role of a case manager is to ensure the safe release of the children. I also enjoyed the benefits and wellness program.

Pros

Helping children, wellness program

Cons

No opportunity to grow, no raise

Management is the worst when it comes to not treating children correctly. Children here are seen as a paycheck, not humans.

I worked here for 3 years and during this time all I saw was how kids were not treated with respect by upper management. They buy children the cheapest clothes possible from discounted stores and when it comes to supplies, these are bought at $1 stores, so this way money that is paid to them by government to spend on these children, goes towards their salary. If an employee complains about children being mistreated by another employee, management will make it hard for you until you quit, or they fire you for any reason they want just to get rid of you. There is a lot of nepotism (hire within family) and if you’re not within that circle, be prepared to be on watch all the time. Avoid applying to this company at all costs.

Pros

Working with children

Cons

Upper management, breaks, pay, unfair treatment of children
