Leadership (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAOctober 29, 2018
phenomenal cycling culture & genuine, passionate people.
underlying management by fear, ruthlessness & unethical behavior at the top. if you are comfortable being uncomfortable, plenty to learn in this entrepreneurial, fast paced environment. as its approached $1B in size the # of mtgs, internal politics, lack of cohesive vision & lack of repeatable processes are tiresome.
Pros
high caliber riding & world class bikes/gear

Anonymous Management Position (Current Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAAugust 28, 2018
Tough place to work. Old boys club, way of managing employees is favoritism and people can quickly turn and stab you in the back here. Would not recommend. You unfortunately will not learn any skills to take on to your next company because things are really dysfunctional.

Outbound Lead (Current Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTOctober 2, 2018
The culture is amazing, the products are well made and there is a lot of job security. Management was great. I loved the people who worked there and how they like to hire from within.
Pros

Its true what they say, this place is perfect for an ex pro-cyclist or aspiring pro-cyclist
R & D (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAMay 29, 2018
One of the best companies to work for in the world for an aspiring professional in the sports industry, particularly in cycling sports. SBC is the pinnacle of the bicycle industry. The very top! If your blessed enough to make it here, good luck on security.

SBC recruits the best of the best. Your colleagues are from other top brands and engineering firms too high-level to mention.

A bit of advice, do great work, keep your head down, computer and paperwork in-hand at all times, and the most important thing no one tells you...DO THE LUNCH RIDE, or you may not be there too much longer (seen as unworthy). Your work will go to market without you.
Pros
All access S-Works! International travel is plentiful.

Service Technician/Sales (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAAugust 27, 2018
No weekly meetings or meeting at all about what was happening with sales or discounts. Very little direction from management. Any questions you needed to find the answer yourself.

Poor Management
Administration (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAApril 20, 2018
Poor management from the CEO and President, pushed down through executive team and middle management.

Irrational, emotion based decision making.

Managers are required to give 25% of their staff poor reviews, otherwise face retaliation from executive management (e.g., everyone cannot be a top performer).
Pros
Cafeteria, lunch rides, gym
Cons

Stressful work environment with little reward
Buyer (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAJuly 11, 2018
The people you work with are great but management can be very frustrating, a few times in the 6 years I worked there there was a survey taken by employees regarding how the staff perceived management and their overall quality of life at work. The results were awful (for management), then management stood in front of the company and swore to take action to make things better, they didn't. 3 years later we took the same survey and results were the same.

The other major concern is the low pay considering you have t live in silicon valley.. Specialized being in the recreation industry cannot afford to pay it's employees what they need to survive in this area. As a result you have employee's that share rent by living with 5 people in a 2 bedroom town house, or living in the parking lot out of their microbus.

Lastly, in the 6 years that I worked there overhead had ballooned out of control and sales were waning and as a result merit increases were not issued and bonuses were cut out, regardless of the fact my performance review was flawless.
Pros
Bagel Friday!!

Cut-throat co-workers

Distribution Specialist (Former Employee) –  Groveport, OHJanuary 15, 2018
On a typical day of work, there will be competitions between coworkers to see who can safely get the most work done. Every day you learn something new whether its a new position in the warehouse or you are learning how to operate a new piece of equipment. The management was amazing everyone is friendly and actually cares about their employees. The hardest part of the job would be when it gets slow and you just clean the warehouse until it picks up again. The relationships that were created at work makes coming into work and getting everything done more enjoyable.

Candidate (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAMay 5, 2018
Internal recruiting told me not long ago that they have found their perfect candidate that can sing, dance, whistle, but they keep on reposing the job. Fake job listing.

This is a great company to work for. Very high paced and motivated company. A typical day might be something like this. Releasing orders. Evaluating accounts for credit worthyness. Maintaining retailers accounts. Tracking orders. Reveiwing financials for credit increases and customer service. This company has a great sales and credit team. The company has a whole strives for unity and customer satifaction. The most enjoyable part of my job was calling dealers and getting to know their business and helping them anyway I can to be successfull.

Productive, fun, and layed-back workplace
Jr. International Trade Specialist (Former Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTJanuary 23, 2014
I learned a lot about the world of international trade and logistics working here. I never felt overwhelmed by this field that was all new to me. I was supported, directed, and managed rather well. I felt productive and useful, but I still felt as if I could have fun at work and have fun with my co-workers. The hardest part of the job was learning how to work with programs like Oracle, which I had never previously worked with. I was provided excellent training and became acclimated to these programs quickly and felt competent in the workplace.
Pros
Gym facilities on site, health benefits, competitive pay

fun place to work, MUST like bikes
sales (Former Employee) –  Morgan Hill, CAFebruary 5, 2015
Specialized is a great place to work, but will burn you out quickly if you let it. It is a very innovative, creative, fun and competitive place to work, with lots of passionate people who live, eat and breathe nothing but bikes. In regards to the cycling industry, it pays OK, but not up to par with the tech jobs further north in Silicon Valley. They have a lot of company perks - like daily mid-day races/rides, donut/bagel fridays, in-house gym, yoga classes, etc.
Pros
bike culture, great people
Cons
highly competitive

On your feet job, but it's a good workout.
Part Time Distribution Specialist (Current Employee) –  Groveport, OHFebruary 25, 2016
The job is pretty constant manual labor, but what you're lifting/moving around all day isn't necessarily heavy items. It's a fairly fun job for what it is, and it's a good workout. I probably wouldn't want to do it full-time, but it's a great entry-level job with no previous experience or high education level required.
Pros
Lots of break, free fruit, and occasionally donuts.
Cons
Uncertainty of when workday will end.

Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) –  Salt Lake City, UTJanuary 29, 2014
The people and the work was great. The environment made me enjoy working there. The work load, however, was too much for how few people were employed, and it took 10 months working through a temp service before they would hire anybody.
Pros
Great people, free snacks at lunch
Cons
Mandatory 12+hour days, only to lose overtime pay by being sent home early Thursday and Friday.
