Lack of support with behaviors. Major behaviors occur every day in each classroom and disrupt student learning and safety. Not enough staff to support students (elementary level) and other students are exposed several times a day to violence, emotional outbursts, trashed classrooms, ripped up student work, vulgar language, student/teacher harassment etc. It should be expected of teachers to manage behaviors, which as a teacher I know staff works so hard at doing, however it takes away from teaching/learning time. These major behaviors are not what educators are trained to do. So many students have trauma/emotional needs and as we had professional development, ultimately it is too much. There needs to be more counselors and behavior specialists. Not the view that it is the teachers job to figure it out.
