Long hours and low pay
In Private Equity, you constantly work long hours even when not in “busy season”. The pay does not make up for the amount of hours worked due to being on salary with no overtime. Turnover is always high due to these issues and teams are always understaffed. Benefits are good which is the main reason a lot of people stay.
In Hedge Funds, things are - more ... a little different. The hedge fund department has a much more balanced work/home life. Hours are pretty close to 8 hrs/day. Most hedge fund employees are gone for the day before private equity employees have even thought about leaving.
